POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide general nursing care and leadership, working 
collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary team members. The RN will promote and 
restore patient’s health as they provide, delegate, evaluate and coordinate comprehensive 
professional nursing care through the use of the nursing process for patients of all ages, gender, 
cultures, and background; provide physical and psychosocial support to patients, friends, and 
families. This individual may oversee clinical care of other personnel including CNA's, ED 
Techs and unit clerks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Demonstrates knowledge for age specific factors necessary to perform safe and effective 
performance of duties.
2. Utilizes the nursing process to provide and evaluate the patient’s plan of care. Coordinates 
patient care with other team members, implements care in a knowledgeable and skillful manner.
3. Evaluates effectiveness of care given by self and other health care team members, systems, 
environment, and instrumentation in progressing patient towards outcomes. Utilizes the nursing 
process to compare patient response with observable outcomes which are specified in the plan of
care as evidenced by documentation.
4. Identifies initial and ongoing patient/family/significant other’s education as an integral part of 
care and implements appropriate measures to meet these as evidenced by documentation.
5. Initiates discharge planning based upon admission assessment, makes appropriate referrals, and 
monitors patient/family/significant other’s progress and readiness for discharge, collaborating 
with health team members as appropriate. 
6. Performs assessments focusing on the physical and psycho-social health status of the patient in 
an ongoing, timely, and systematic manner as evidenced by documentation. Participates in 
formulating the outcomes based on the plan of care which is prioritized by nursing.
7. Performs concise, accurate, and legible documentation according to standards designated for 
pertinent circumstances.
8. Provides a safe, clean, comfortable environment for patients. Identifies and reports potential and 
active environmental safety hazards.
9. May direct or supervise other nursing staff or healthcare personnel. 
10. Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; remains accountable for content of missed staff meetings.
Attends all mandatory in-services.
11. Displays flexibility in scheduling to meet staffing needs of the hospital.
12. Work in various clinical departments where qualified and competent, depending on the needs of 
the hospital.
13. Works every other weekend as dictated by patient acuity/census and staffing needs.
14. Provides nursing care that meets the physical, spiritual, and social needs of patients and their 
families. 
15. Adheres to all Infection Control policies and practices, including hand hygiene, personal 
protective equipment, isolation precautions, and healthcare worker immunizations.
16. Strives to gain additional knowledge and skills, including certifications. 
17. Administers medication accurately and per physician’s order.
18. Knowledgeable in the use of specialized equipment, treatment procedures, policies, practices, 
and standards of clinical area.
19. Maintains harmonious relationship with other departments and co-workers, providing support 
and assistance to co-workers across units to ensure quality patient care.
20. Maintains patient confidentiality and does not discuss patient in public areas such as cafeteria, 
hallways, parking lots or loudly so others can hear.
21. Demonstrates ability to lift, transfer and transport patients in wheelchair, bed or stretcher 
utilizing appropriate transfer device.
22. Reduces the risks of accidental injury or exposure by following established safety guidelines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. Active Arizona RN License 
2. ADN - Minimum Education
3. BSN - Preferred Education
4. 6 months – 1 year in hospital setting – Preferred Experience
5. Maintain current ACLS and PALS Certification required
6. Maintain current BLS/CPR certification as per Benson Hospital policy.
7. Maintains current non-violent crisis intervention certification. (CPI)
