WTTW News (Chicago PBS) is seeking a Social Media Editor to innovate, expand reach, and increase the impact of news content through development of strategy and content for social and digital news platforms. This is a management level position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         In collaboration with editorial, marketing, and digital colleagues, develop, refine, and execute social strategy and voice for news with the objective of achieving established metrics and audience growth goals. 

·         Pitch, create, produce, schedule, distribute, and test fresh, platform-specific social content for WTTW News – including text, graphics, animations, and video.

·         Be responsive to real-time social and search patterns; report on live events on designated social platforms.

·         Create and manage audience-driven editorial and distribution calendar for social media content.

·         Develop, document, and share analytics reporting; continuously analyze social performance and make recommendations for platform and content changes and improvements.

·         Cultivate strategic external relationships with the goal of deploying a push-pull strategy to promote WTTW News content.

·         Develop, follow, and share newsroom social media workflow, guidelines, and best practices.

·         Supervise WTTW News social staff.

·         Perform other digital production and website management duties for news as assigned.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Demonstrated experience leading or working at a high level on a metrics-driven social media team

·         Expert proficiency in organic and paid social media content production, distribution, algorithms, and analytics with a track record of driving growth for branded accounts

·         Ability to work independently, proactively, and persistently in a high post volume work environment

·         Ability to collaborate with content creators across broadcast and digital

·         Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities

·         Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy; excellent organizational and planning skills

·         Excellent writing, editing, and fact checking skills

·          Strong interest in Chicago news

·          Understanding of journalistic ethics and procedure as well as an understanding of public media

EXPERIENCE:  

·         5+ experience managing and creating content for news or branded social media accounts

·         High level image and video editing proficiency utilizing Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects.

·         Expert knowledge of social analytics gathering, analysis, and reporting using common tools including Sprout Social, Google Analytics, and CrowdTangle

·         Work experience with a news organization is preferred
