United Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State, Inc. d/b/a Constructive Partnerships Unlimited (CP Unlimited) is one of New York City's largest multi-service and most wide spread Community Living Organizations with programs dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. CP Unlimited was formerly known as Cerebral Palsy Associations of NYS.  Our new name better reflects our wide array of services and programs and the diversity of people with disabilities that our agency supports.

CP Unlimited operates an extensive community based living program, day habilitation programs, and community habilitation services. CP Unlimited focuses on giving people the personal, social, and vocational supports needed to live in their communities.  CP Unlimited also provides rehabilitation, nursing, vocational services, behavioral, dietary and Article 16 services including counseling, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.

CP Unlimited currently is seeking a Nursing Administrator to join our collaborative team to provide administrative, professional and clinical supervision of the nursing staff and develop nursing procedures that reflect current clinical practices, professional standards, and facility philosophy of care in our Queens Community Living Service Program.

Specific job duties of the Nursing Administrator include:

  • Ensure provision of nursing and nursing-related services to attain and/or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psycho-social well-being of the people we support.
  • Development of policies and procedures relevant to the provision of medical services as needed and requested. Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff. Monitor practice for effective implementation.
  • Establish criteria to assure that services provided meet established standards of quality care. 
  • Conduct, or provide staff to conduct, resident assessments as required; develop plans of care, evaluations; people that are receiving services response to interventions, and documenting clinical records effectively in compliance with state and federal requirements. 
  • Implements infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment, and to prevent the development and transmission of disease and infection. 
  • Review infection control surveillance reports to identify trends, and to develop effective actions to control and prevent infections in the facility.  
  • Review reports daily to ensure timely, effective responses to significant changes in condition, transfers, discharges, use of physical restraints, unexplained injuries, potential abuse or neglect, medication errors; ensure communication to administration of findings and results. 
  • Participate in the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team to ensure that all team members of aware of any and all medical conditions or concerns. 
  • Responsible for ensuring communication among and between nursing staff.  
  • Oversee quality and appropriateness of nursing services, medical doctors, consultants and other professionals. Oversee clinical on-site visits.
  • Ensures that all medical records are kept up to date and meet regulatory standards. Reviews nursing notes and other medical documentation to ensure that it is up-to-date and completed in an accurate and professional manner
  • Provides direct supervision to all nurses on the roster; ensures that all nursing staff have a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
  • Ensures coverage for nurse absences or vacancies as needed. 
  • Participates in the Incident Review Committee and Human Rights Committee; other committees and meetings as needed. 
  • Evaluates and develops corrective actions plan to deficient findings related to internal reviews, incidents, OPWDD DQI surveys, and systemic issues. 
  • Participates in interviewing, screening, and hiring of nursing staff, as well as Medical Coordinators; ensures initial and on-going training as needed.
  • Accept special assignments, and ad hoc projects, as requested.

Requirements for the Nursing Administrator position:

  • NYS-Licensed Professional Registered Nurse, BSN with current license in good standing in NYS; Master’s preferred
  • 3-5 years nursing experience in the care of persons with Intellectual and Development Disabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to and access multiple locations throughout the metropolitan area.
  • Able to work flexible hours and/or days.
  • Respond to supervision and willing to increase overall job knowledge
