Associate Director, Commercial Advanced Data Analytics

The impact you will make:

Agios Pharmaceuticals is seeking a dynamic Associate Director, Commercial Advanced Data Analytics to join our growing Commercial Operations and Analytics team. The Associate Director, Commercial Advanced Data Analytics will be responsible for leveraging data analytics techniques to drive business decisions and strategies; this requires a blend of technical expertise in data analytics, statistical modeling, and machine learning along with strong business acumen. The Associate Director, Commercial Advanced Data Analytics will clearly define business questions to support the business need, understand the specific goals and objectives the data analysis aims to address, will be able to draw actionable recommendations. This role will have a strong ability to connect and relate while partnering cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, including sales, marketing, compliance, legal/regulatory, market access, medical affairs, human resources, as well as other arms of the Commercial Analytics and Operations team. As the Agios business evolves and grows, this role will help enhance and shape the data analytics strategies to better meet the evolving nature and needs of the company.

 

What you will do:

  • Data Driven, Detailed Oriented and Hands-On: Devise and utilize algorithms and models to mine big data. Use statistical techniques, machine learning algorithms, or predictive models for hypothesis testing, insight generation, and answering specific business questions.
    • Claims Data Analytics: Utilize advanced analytic techniques and data modeling to analyze large claims datasets to uncover patterns, trends, and anomalies, and succinctly provide actionable insights to support decision-making processes and strategy.
    • Market Segmentation and Targeting: Utilize data-driven methodologies to segment markets and identify target customer groups for tailored sales strategies and Marketing campaigns.
  • Business Strategy Support: Interpret data analytics findings in the context of business problems and assess their implications. Extract actionable insights from analysis outcomes to inform decisions. Work with cross-functional teams to turn data-driven insights into practical strategies. 
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Develop dashboards, KPIs, and reports to monitor commercial initiatives’ performance, assess strategy effectiveness, and highlight improvement areas. Clearly present insights and results to stakeholders through effective visualization and reporting techniques.
  • Identifying Relevant Data Sources: Identify internal and external data sources critical for addressing business questions. Support the facilitating the procurement of datasets (structured or unstructured) that enhance advance analytics and reporting capabilities, enabling deep insights and more informed decision-making.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and compliance requirements related to claims data analysis and reporting.
  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest data analytics tools, techniques, and industry trends. Integrating new methodologies to enhance existing processes and continuously improving the quality of insights derived from data.

 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, or related field.  Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred.
  • 7+ years in pharma/biotech industry
  • 7+ years within commercial organization of pharma/biotech
  • 3-5 years in a data scientist or data analytics role
  • Rare disease experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar for creating comprehensive visual presentations.
  • Proficiency in platforms such as Alteryx or comparable solutions for analytics and automation.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or SQL is essential for effective data analysis.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, machine learning, and data mining techniques is required to drive insights and decision-making.
  • Excellent business acumen for understanding commercial operations, marketing strategies, and sales processes within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in working with various healthcare datasets, including prescription data, medical claims, anonymous patient-level longitudinal data (APLD), electronic health records (EHR), specialty pharmacy data, patient support services data, and other pertinent healthcare information. 
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical landscape, including knowledge of commercial infrastructure and healthcare systems
  • Ability to adapt to evolving business needs and technologies and stay updated with the latest advancements in data analytics tools, techniques, and industry trends.
  • Strong team player who has a partnership and collaboration mindset and is solution oriented.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently, within a multidisciplinary team, and with external partners and vendors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Work Location:

Location Agnostic: Work location for this role is based on employee's individual preference. This role has the ability to be either remote in the US or hybrid in our Cambridge Headquarters. Hybrid schedules vary but are generally less than 3 days per week onsite and hybrid employees are expected to live within commutable distance to our Cambridge Headquarters. Remote employees work entirely from home except for attending Company sponsored events/ meetings. For employees who choose to work remotely, travel may be required for certain company events commensurate to the above job description.
