Associate Scientist, In-Vivo Pharmacology

Agios is seeking a highly motivated individual for to support in vivo research activities across multiple programs in the Rare Genetic Diseases (RGD)/Genetically Defined Diseases (GDD) portfolio.

Ideally, the successful candidate will tackle new areas of science that touch a variety of disciplines.  The successful candidate will be expected to learn and explore new scientific domains and disease models.  A high degree of learning agility and scientific acumen will be needed to succeed in this role.

This challenging career opportunity is within a fast-paced pharmacology group where this individual will be responsible for coordinating efforts across multiple functions to provide the optimal in vivo research and drug discovery program for our genetically defined disease franchise and programs

Main Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as pharmacology representative and lead and oversee disease model selection, generation and characterization to support target validation to early clinical development
  • Work with scientists across R&D and responsible for in vivo activities including study design, execution, data interpretation and communication
  • Work closely with drug discovery teams to develop and implement in vivo deliverables and timelines
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners for in vivo study execution, data interpretation and future study plans
  • Interpret and communicate study results and in vivo plans at team meetings and other public forums


  • MS/BS in pharmacology, biology or relevant scientific field with minimum 3+ years of experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong expertise in animal handling and in vivo techniques including dosing and sampling are required; Experience with RGD/GDD models and neurobehavioral studies is highly desired
  • Familiar with in vivo workflow with knowledge of animal care regulations and compliances
  • Experience with ex vivo techniques and in vitro biomarker analysis is a plus
  • Able to effectively manage schedules, prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
