Job Brief
Responsible for the oversight of coordination of the services provided to individuals in Day Habilitation and providing support to the families of individuals.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Day Program works closely with the Director of Day Services, program staff, and individuals/families served to ensure services are delivered according to Habilitation Plans. This role supports individuals in achieving independence, community integration, and personal development, while supervising Day Habilitation Coordinators and ensuring compliance with OPWDD and agency standards.
Position Duties
- Supervise and support Day Habilitation Coordinators, including coaching, training, team meetings, and evaluations
- Assist with staff hiring, onboarding, payroll, PTO, performance evaluations, and compliance with mandatory trainings
- Oversee program implementation, including service planning, data collection, and reporting for habilitation goals
- Ensure staffing supports align with individual service plans and program needs
- Support quality improvement, including tracking corrective action plans and compliance with internal/external audits
- Manage sensitive situations and behavioral crises using approved SCIP techniques while maintaining safety and dignity
- Conduct and record fire drills; maintain physical integrity and cleanliness of the site
- Participate in agency committees, meetings, and program development
- Maintain documentation, including timesheets, Medicaid billing, and training records
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Day Habilitation program
- Directly supervises Day Habilitation Coordinators.
- Ability to physically assist individuals and intervene during behavioral crises using approved techniques
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with individuals, families, peers, and supervisors
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive agency vehicles
- Knowledge of community resources and proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong supervisory, organizational, and communication skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, or related field
- Minimum 2 years supervisory experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an OPWDD-regulated environment
- Successful completion of all required trainings
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to lift/support/transfers up to 50–70 lbs individually; up to 200 lbs with assistance
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, hear, see, and speak

License
- Valid New York State Driver’s License or CT Driver’s License
- Must meet agency requirements for insurability
