Job Title: Accounting Technician III - Sales Tax
Department: Finance
Classification: Non-Exempt
Hiring Range: $28.57/hour - $32.15/hour
Salary Range: $28.57/hour - $42.87/hour
Position Summary: Performs a variety of entry-level accounting duties related to sales, lodging and use tax accounts, monitoring and posting to business license accounts, cash receipting, vendor set-ups and customer service consistent with the organization’s values and mission statement.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general supervision of the Revenue Manager.

Essential Job Functions:
Tax and Business Accounts
• Responsible for responding to customer tax and license inquiries and processes limited paper filings. Prepares monthly delinquency reports and/or summons requests for non-payers.
• Assists tax auditor with reports and information. Maintains sales tax/business license database and updates account information.
• Reviews and approves Real Estate Transfer Tax (RETT) applications, process payments and refers exemptions to appropriate approval process and then processes documents.
• Reviews and takes action to post or resolve insufficient funds and return charges on the City’s bank accounts.
Customer Service
• Provides information, answers questions, responds to complaints, solves problems, and refers both walk-in and telephone traffic to the appropriate source.
• Collects fees and payments and issue receipts. Resolves general customer inquiries.
Department Support
• Assists other accounting and finance staff as needed.
• Creates new vendors in Oracle financial system as needed. Process accounts receivable and deposit checks for other departments.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Associate’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field.
Experience: One year of experience with accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable or administrative duties.
Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient in the following areas: Microsoft Outlook Email, Excel, 10-key and a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web based platforms.
Licenses & Certifications:
• Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.
NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.
NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.
Position Type and Work Hours:
• Regular full time, hours may vary with workload.
• Evenings/Weekends may (infrequently) be required depending on department needs and special projects.
