Job Title: Parks Maintenance Supervisor – Downtown Services
Department: Parks and Open Space
Classification: Non-Exempt 

Hiring Range: $33.95/hourly - $38.20/hourly

Salary Range: $33.95/hourly - $50.92/hourly
 

Position Summary: Performs various lead work responsibilities in the operation and maintenance of the City owned properties and trails consistent with the organization’s values and mission statement. 
 

Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general supervision of the Parks Field Supervisor or Trails Manager.  Leads maintenance crews as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

Daily Operations & Maintenance

  • Assists with planning and organizing daily activities and projects.
  • Supervises and assists in performing daily maintenance of parks, trails, mall and city-owned properties, ditches and trees.
  • Performs lead work and labor in all aspects of parks and mall job duties.

     

Materials & Resource Planning

  • Assists with annual materials and supply orders. Responsible for crew safety and maintaining an efficient work environment.  

 

Safety & Training

  • Ensures all safety procedures are followed and training needs are met.  

 

Leadership, Staffing & Development

  • Assists in supervisor responsibilities through sound judgment, focusing on quality improvement, managing and resolving conflict, fostering a culture of accountability, clearly defining responsibilities and expectations, setting goals, providing motivation and performance feedback, recognizing contributions and encouraging training and development.
  • Assists with hiring and training of seasonal, temporary and/or intermittent personnel. 

     

Task Delegation & Shift Coordination

  • Delegates tasks to personnel during shift as appropriate, insures adequate staffing, and completion of tasks during shift as appropriate.

 

Communication & Problem Solving  

  • Communicates policies, procedures and job expectations.  Provides training and resolves problems as necessary.
     

Winter Operations

  • During winter months performs lead work duties in the removal of snow and ice from pedestrian malls, trails, sidewalks, bridges, parking lots, culverts and drainage systems with medium and heavy weight equipment and hand tools. 
  • Operates small and medium equipment including but not limited to skid-steers, loaders, and tractors.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:  One to two years of experience in parks maintenance. 

Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient in the following areas: Microsoft Outlook Email, and a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web based platforms.

Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.

Preferred Candidate: 
•    Supervisory management experience. 
•    Playground inspection experience

NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.

NOTE: This position requires a 5/6 panel drug test (to be completed at PROCOM – Glenwood Springs), a physical examination (at Grand River Health Clinic West – Parachute), and a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon passing a physical examination, a drug test and Criminal Background Check.

Position Type and Work Hours: 
•    Regular full time, hours may vary with workload. 
•    Evenings/Weekends may be required depending on department needs and special projects.

Work Environment:  
•    Indoors: Office environment.
•    Outdoors/Off-Site: Work is performed in a variety of environments both indoors and outdoors, and involves exposure to a variety of weather conditions and temperatures. Meetings, trainings, and conferences at a variety of city facilities and areas.

Reaching: Extending the hands and arms or other device in any direction.
Repetitive motions: Making frequent or continuous movements.
