POSITION: DIRECTOR, CENTER FOR STUDENT PERSISTENCE & SUCCESS

JOB SUMMARY: The Center for Student Persistence & Success provides integrated support via co-curricular programming, leadership development, and community-wide engagement to enhance the learning experience at New Jersey City University. Through our efforts, our goal is to address & alleviate any barriers that prevent students from completing a college degree—specifically those who identify as first-generation scholars, adult learners and those from historically underrepresented & underserved communities.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Life & Community Engagement, the Director will manage the day-to-day operations of the Center—which includes the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, the Student Government Association (SGA), The Gothic Times Newspaper, the Office for First-Generation Student Initiatives, the first-year student experience initiative, and our clubs & organizations. This position will work collaboratively with academic departments, student services and administrators to foster a culture of success, engagement, and increased degree completion rates at the University.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Center—including the supervision, hiring, training, and evaluating of the full and part-time staff, student employees and graduate assistants.
· Collaborate with campus partners (financial aid, advisement, counseling, career services, etc.) to promote student success and to address any major barriers that may prevent degree completion
· Plans, directs, and executes major large-scale college wide events (concerts, comedy shows, Speaker Series, community service projects, etc.)
· Participate in the assessment of the Center’s initiatives; use the data to adjust the programming and/or create other actionable items
· Serve as a standing member of the Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (BIDE) & the University’s CARE Committees
· Provide ongoing training to Center staff on best practices for supporting student persistence
· Offer leadership development and strategic support student-led clubs & organizations
· Prepares, administers, and manages the operating budget and expenditures related to the department and performs analysis and reporting to support decision-making
· Provides regular reports to senior leadership on the effectiveness of the Center’s programming, including progress toward the University’s Strategic Goals, as outlined in the Master Plan.
EDUCATION: Master's degree in higher education administration, student personnel, counseling, or a related field is required; a terminal degree (Ph.D.,Ed.D., Psy.D.) is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in student affairs, campus life, retention or opportunity programs with demonstrated leadership experience; strong understanding of best practices in student persistence and engagement, particularly for first-generation scholars, commuters, first year students, adult learners and other historically underrepresented students; excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work collaboratively with campus & community partners and other stakeholders; ability to manage large-scale campus events and oversee a complete array of fiscal and operational complexities associated with co-curricular event and program planning. Occasional evening and/or weekend hours will be required.
