POSITION:        ASSISTANT DIRECTOR               

LOCATION:       PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Pre-College Programs, the Assistant Director supervises one or more sections of the Pre-College Programs, including GEAR UP and College Bound. This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of both programs, managing staff, and ensuring program goals are met. The Assistant Director actively participates in the development and implementation of program goals, policies, and procedures to support student success. This is a full-time, grant-funded position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Staff Supervision & Operations Management: Supervise and direct the work of professional staff, mentors, and tutors. Organize, assign, and monitor work operations, identify problem areas, and suggest areas for improvement.
  • Program Development & Management: Assist in planning, developing, and managing program initiatives. Recommend and implement goals, policies, and procedures to ensure program effectiveness and compliance with institutional and grant requirements.
  • Student Support: Provide assistance to students and families regarding programming, activities, and services. Guide participants in conflict resolution and provide technical assistance with financial aid and college applications.
  • Recruitment & Participant Management: Recruit, screen, and select applicants in grades 6-12 for program eligibility. Maintain and update individual participant records and assist participants in selecting post-secondary institutions.
  • Budget & Reporting: Assist with managing the program budget and preparing program-related reports, including the Annual Performance Report (APR) and Final Reports.
  • Training & Development: Supervise and coordinate training for mentors and tutors. Provide ongoing assessment and evaluation of program services, adjusting as necessary to meet participant needs.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with college administrators, faculty, staff, and student organizations to accomplish program objectives.
  • Program Compliance & Evaluation: Consult with the Program Director to ensure activities comply with grant requirements. Conduct regular assessments of program effectiveness and adjust services as needed.
  • Other Responsibilities:
    • Participate in staff development and in-service training.
    • Serve on institutional and community committees.
    • Adhere to university policies and procedures.
    • Ability to work remotely when necessary.
    • Perform other duties as required to achieve program goals.

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college/university with a minimum of bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of professional experience in an institution of higher learning experience working with at-risk youth or a field that is directly related to the functions of the position.

PREFERRED: Experience with Pre-College programs and a Master’s degree is preferred or an equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.
