The City of Aspen is looking for a motivated Arts Education Intern to support the Red Brick Center for the Arts while gaining hands-on experience in 

arts education and program facilitation.

 

Job Title: Arts Education Intern -Seasonal

Department: Red Brick Center for the Arts 

Classification: Non-exempt, Seasonal

Dates: June 6, 2026 – August 14, 2026

Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour

Position summary: The Art Education Intern supports summer art camps at the Red Brick Center for the Arts while gaining hands-on experience in arts education, youth engagement, and community-based programming. The intern assists professional Art Educators with daily camp activities, classroom preparation, and instructional support, gradually taking on increased responsibility in activity facilitation. The position also provides exposure to public art programming and gallery operations, with structured learning goals and regular supervision by the Arts Programming Coordinator.
This internship is designed for emerging artists and educators interested in developing skills as a teaching artist in a community arts setting.

Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general supervision of the Arts Programming Coordinator and in coordination with Art Educators. This position is non-supervisory.

Essential Job Functions:  
Student Supervision & Engagement
•    Assists with supervision of children during art camps and activities
•    Encourages and guides participants through the art-making process
•    Promotes positive behavior and helps maintain group expectations
•    Gradually assumes leadership of assigned activities
•    Supports safety procedures and report concerns to supervising staff

Lesson & Activity Support
•    Supports preparation and implementation of art lessons and activities
•    Assists with lesson preparation and activity planning
•    Participates in selecting themes and projects
•    Leads at least one structured activity with campers

Classroom Operations & Organization
•    Assists with classroom setup, cleanup, and organization of materials and equipment
•    Helps prepare materials and schedules
•    Participates in scheduled check-in meetings and learning activities

Communication & Customer Service
•    Communicates with parents and guardians during drop-off and pick-up
•    Documents learning experiences as directed

Capstone Leadership Experience
•    Assists in planning and facilitating full-day art camps or extended sessions
•    Evaluates the experience through a final reflection
•    Participates in a culminating program activity

Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience: Previous experience in the arts and working with children preferred but not required.

Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (Email), and have a basic understanding of online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web-based platforms.

Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a valid Driver’s License.  

NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge, and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.

NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire.  Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.

Position Type and Work Hours:
•    Seasonal: 35 to 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.
•    Start Date: June 8, 2026
•    End Date: August 14, 2026
•    Work schedule coordinated with Arts Programming Coordinator.
•    Hours and days vary depending on depending on operational needs

Work Environment: 
•    Indoors: Red Brick Center for the Arts facility which includes office environment, art classroom, and gallery.
•    Outdoors/Off-Site: Field trips to parks, playgrounds, museums, and other relatable sights. Meetings, trainings, and conferences at a variety of city facilities and areas.
