V/Line’s purpose is to connect Victorians through safe, reliable, and accessible transport. We believe in giving all Victorians opportunities through travel and transport – connecting them to jobs, education, family and friends, services, tourism and trade.
V/Line is experiencing significant growth and we’re delivering more services, more trains, cheaper fares, and huge projects. With more than 3700 weekly train and coach services, an expansive freight network and unprecedented rail investment, millions of Victorians depend on us to deliver. You could be one of our 2700 committed team members who are up to the challenge.
About the role
V/Line is seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Risk Advisor to drive best‑practice risk management across a major portfolio of rail projects. This is a pivotal role where you’ll guide project and operational teams to identify, assess and manage risk across the full lifecycle, ensuring alignment with AS ISO 31000, Rail Safety National Law (RSNL) and SFAIRP (so far as is reasonably practicable).
In this role, you will:
· Lead and embed consistent, high‑quality risk management practices across the Projects portfolio.
· Facilitate and conduct risk assessments and reviews, helping teams identify controls and build effective treatment plans.
· Monitor operational risk activity, provide insights, and identify opportunities to strengthen compliance and delivery confidence.
· Act as a trusted subject matter expert to Project Managers, technical specialists and senior stakeholders.
· Prepare and present risk reporting to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
· Contribute to the Risk Management Annual Plan alongside the Risk Manager and broader Quality, Compliance and Risk teams.
· Deliver targeted risk training and coaching to uplift capability across the Group.
This position suits someone who values structure, clarity and disciplined practice — and who brings the presence, confidence and communication skills needed to influence senior leaders across safety, engineering, delivery and executive environments.
About you
You’re a senior risk professional with strong technical expertise, ideally gained in rail, construction or complex infrastructure environments. You bring a deep understanding of both operational and project‑based risk, and you’re comfortable leading others in environments with significant safety, regulatory and delivery obligations.
We’re looking for someone with most (or all) of the following:
· Experience in risk management across rail, construction or major infrastructure projects.
· Proven application of AS ISO 31000, RSNL and SFAIRP principles.
· Strong capability in project risk management, including identifying risks, assessing controls and developing effective treatment plans across the lifecycle.
· Expertise in risk frameworks, methodologies and reporting aligned to AS ISO 31000, with experience producing insights for senior leaders and executives.
· Experience planning and facilitating risk workshops, and the ability to influence stakeholders to adopt sound risk practices.
· Understanding of Safety in Design and its integration with project delivery and compliance requirements.
· Ability to coach and deliver structured training to uplift risk capability in project environments.
· Familiarity with V/Line’s frameworks (e.g. LEST‑2, SAPR‑9) or the ability to quickly develop proficiency.
Tertiary qualifications in risk, engineering, business, finance or science are desirable.
If your skills or experience don’t exactly match our listed requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and believe in the potential for growth and development.
