Rail Systems Network Modelling - Undergraduate  – 12 Week Fixed Term (Full-Time, Paid)

  • $39.5260 per hour for a 12-week rail network modelling internship.
  • Two positions available to support rail service planning.

About the Role

Could you be the next Rail Network Modelling Undergraduate to help us build the future of Victoria’s rail network?

This is a unique, paid internship that offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside a talented team of experts in rail modelling and planning. If you are a student about to enter or already completing your final year of undergraduate or postgraduate study, this role offers an excellent chance to apply your skills and contribute to real-world projects that impact the state’s rail network.


As a Rail Systems Network Modelling Undergraduate, you’ll be involved in critical projects that will shape the future of V/Line's service planning and rail network operations. You’ll gain practical, hands-on experience with advanced rail modelling systems and contribute to the development of strategic service plans that improve the way we move people across Victoria.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Rail Network Planning: Contribute to the design and development of V/Line’s strategic service plans and future network configurations.
  • Data Analysis: Collect, collate, and analyse operational data to inform planning decisions.
  • Modelling and Simulation: Support the validation and testing of RailSys models, ensuring data integrity and model accuracy.
  • Collaborative Projects: Work with a multi-disciplinary team of experts, contributing to the development of innovative decision-support tools and operational simulations.

 

About You

We are looking for motivated students who are passionate about using data and technology to solve real-world problems. The ideal candidate will:

  • Be completing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Have experience with quantitative analysis and data-driven problem solving.
  • Possess advanced Microsoft Excel skills (programming experience is a plus).
  • Have strong communication skills to present findings and collaborate effectively with a team.

 

This position is classified as CLERK C1 ($39.5260 per hour) in accordance with the current V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2023.
