About the role

As the Advisor – Audits, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s People, Risk, Safety, and Sustainability (PRSS) Group. You will be responsible for effectively conducting, delivering, and coordinating independent, value-add audit and assurance activities related to the Internal Audit Strategy and V/Line’s Management System (VMS).

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Conduct and coordinate independent audits and assurance activities, ensuring they align with the internal audit plan, strategies and standards to add value, support the improvement of the V/Line Management System (VMS) and uncover potential risks while evaluating the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal controls.
  • Lead and support audit teams, guiding them through the audit process including coaching and supporting other team members as / where appropriate.
  • Support the coordination of external audit activities with stakeholders such as ONRSR, WorkSafe, Internal Audit Service Providers and ISO certification bodies.
  • Compile and deliver comprehensive audit, assurance and activity progress reports for stakeholders within agreed timeframes.
  • Monitor the development and implementation of action plans to address audit findings and undertake reviews of the follow-up of actions for reporting.
  • Develop strong working relationships with various stakeholders, including regulators, service providers and industry operators, creating a culture of openness, respect, and collaboration to stay abreast of emerging external and internal risks and issues facing the business.
  • Offer guidance and support to V/Line staff and management, encouraging a culture of continual improvement and ensuring compliance with standards, compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all work is performed and documented in compliance with Internal Audit methodology and standards, ensuring all work papers contain sufficient audit evidence on which to base conclusions, with all judgements, assumptions and decisions fully documented.

About You

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in a similar role and will have the opportunity to expand on their skills to develop and enhance current processes and frameworks, gaining access and exposure to the broader business at an enterprise level.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Possess the Following:

  • Experience: At least three years in a generalist audit role, providing compliance, assurance, and managing an internal audit program. Experience within a Big Four firm is desirable.
  • Qualifications: Auditing certifications (ISO 19011, Certified Internal Auditor) and experience with various management system standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) and Accounting, Commerce, Business, or IT Systems.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of compliance requirements, frameworks, laws, regulations, and Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, accounting software, and databases, with the ability to produce detailed and effective audit and board reports.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including senior leadership teams.
