Program Director – Central

Drive transformative infrastructure programs by supporting the Victorian’s Big Build program.

 

Purpose

We are seeking a capable professional to lead V/Line’s role in significant infrastructure programs, focusing on Victoria’s biggest rail infrastructure commitments.

The Program Director – Central will oversee a portfolio of key projects delivering major transport infrastructure improvements on the V/Line network.

This role requires a strong presence to engage stakeholders and provide expert advice.

Experience in rail and alliance contracts is highly desirable.

 

Focus

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to ensure safety, time, cost, and quality outcomes.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the project teams.
  • Offer expert advice on technical integration and risk management.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders.
  • Manage interfaces with delivery partners and government agencies.

 

Scope

  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and organisational policies.
  • Collaborate with government agencies to achieve project benefits.
  • Monitor assurance activities and assess and implement risk management.
  • Address legal, political, environmental, and commercial risks.
  • Ensure design input and system assurance align with project and safety requirements.
  • Execute governance to manage financial, reputational, and delivery risks.
  • Represent V/line on committees and governance forums.
  • Prioritise safety and implement best practices in design and delivery.

 

 Profile

The following credentials are highly regarded:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Business, Construction, or related fields.
  • Formal Project Management qualifications (or ability to obtain).

 

Your knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Extensive experience leading complex programs in rail environment.
  • Proven history leading multi-disciplinary teams to achieve business outcomes.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and legislation in rail or similar.
  • Ability to translate technical information clearly for diverse audiences.

 

Your personal attributes:

  • Exceptional leadership in managing complex infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and align stakeholders, with strong interpersonal, consultation, and negotiation skills.
  • Strategic problem-solving and risk management skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to provide clear, authoritative advice to senior decision-makers.
