KINGSTON

POSITION DESCRIPTION

WSP   is currently seeking a Civil Technologist  to join our Municipal Engineering department, located at our Kingston  office.  Reporting to the Manager        this position will be responsible for preparing CAD Civil3D drawings, specifications;  quantity and cost estimates for tender and construction for municipal engineering and land development projects.  This role may also include various field inspections and reviews.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working directly with Engineers and other technologists;
  • Preparing Civil3D design drawings and specifications for municipal road and infrastructure projects, as well as land development projects (ie. Site plans, subdivisions, etc.);
  • Preparing and manipulating 3D surfaces, volume calculations, corridors;  and comprehensive knowledge of Civil3D feature lines and grading commands;
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines, technologists and sub-consultants;
  • Preparation of specifications and reports;
  • Preparing quantity and cost estimates for municipal and land development projects;
  • Completion of construction as-built for record keeping/approval purposes;
  • Provide assistance to project manager with day to day project operations;
  • Inspection and field review of various projects to ensure compliance with the contract documents. There may be a requirement to carry out inspections in areas outside of Kingston.
  • Utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D knowledge in projects from concept to completion; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduated from a Civil Engineering Technology Program or equivalent program and eligible to be registered as a C.E.T.
  • Over 3 years of engineering design consulting experience with Civil 3D in a variety of projects (road reconstructions and site plan approvals would be an asset);
  • Experience completing topographic surveys would be an asset;
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications;
  • Sound knowledge of engineering standards and principals, practices and techniques;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD);
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal, including teamwork and interpersonal abilities;
  • Comfortable in working independently in both an office and field environment;  and
  • Valid Ontario driver's license.
