WSP's Mechanical & Electrical team engages in the design of healthcare, educational, commercial, residential, recreational and light industrial facilities, with specialization in large and complex projects, sustainable developments, and projects utilizing Alternate Delivery methods including Public-Private Partnerships and Design Build.  

 

WSP has an exciting career opportunity for the right individual with determination, drive, and passion to lead the electrical engineering team in the Vancouver office. This is an operational leadership role responsible for leading a highly motivated team of engineers, technicians, and technologists; and for implementing effective business strategies to achieve the targets for revenue growth, profitability, staff retention, training and development and client satisfaction.  The ideal candidate will have proven leadership and interpersonal skills through the management of professional teams, preferably in the engineering field..

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position will report directly to the Senior Director - Buildings, work independently and with minimal supervision

  • Maintain WSP’s position as the top buildings engineering firm within the local market.

  • Support and mentor staff in enhancing the client relationships, quality of our work and service to our clients.   

  • Identify opportunities, strategizes, leads and assists in business development efforts within the geographic region

  • Pursue and win opportunities with key clients and national clients

  • Continuously monitors the financial performance of the department and takes remedial/corrective actions as required to meet or exceed financial targets

  • Attract hires and retains highly qualified staff

  • Monitor staff performance and provides training and development opportunities for staff

  • Organize career development and performance reviews of all staff within the department

  • Ensure compliance with all staff within the department with WSP policies, practices, procedures and protocols.

  • Develop and implements design and production standards related to our electrical engineering practice.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A university degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution. Membership in good standing with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC. (EGBC);

  • Minimum 15 years of experience managing a department in the Buildings Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Consulting field is required;

  • Excellent communication, time management, multitasking, and detail orientation skills;

  • Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment;

  • Should be prepared to apply for security clearance as may be required by clients and/or projects;

  • Effectively manages a variety of conflicting priorities simultaneously;

  • Able to balance work and personnel requirements;

  • Enjoys working in a professional work environment with clients, and work outside of normal business hours.
