THORNHILL

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Project Manager, Rail Station Design to join our Rail & Transit Group, located at our Thornhill office, Toronto.  Reporting to the Program Manager, this position will be responsible for leading Project Management activities, including but not limited to; Station Design, project controls, stakeholder management, change orders, project progress reporting and other duties associated with a Senior Project Management role

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Management of Rail Station Design projects;
  • Project controls support including Schedule Development and Management;
  • Lead the technical design and engineering team, Construction Administration staff and other resources for engineering services during design, tendering, construction and post construction phases;
  • Resourcing and Budget Management;
  • Owner and Stakeholder Reporting; including representing WSP at meetings, presentations and addressing issues raised by Owners/Clients;
  • Manage resolution of Technical and/or administration issues, in support of and in partnership with other project Stakeholders;
  • Review and make recommendations regarding design work, the contractor’s quality of work, construction progress, schedule, payment application, requests for supplemental instruction, change orders, change directives, substantial performance and total performance of the work and claims.
  • Apply consistent and comprehensive methodology/approach to design deliverables and quality of design submissions to ensure submissions are prepared and verified in accordance with professional practice guidelines of industry and respective client design standards.
  • Accountable for the completeness and conformance of deliverables to specific project submission requirements and checklists.
  • Manage the day to day activities of the dedicated project team(s) and any subconsultants that may be assigned to the Project.
  • Respond in reasonable and a timely manner in matters relating to the scope of work under their remit.
  • Ensure that all lessons learned from previous projects and those from the respective phases of the projects under their control are captured and reported upon.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario or Member of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA);
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) considered an asset.
  • Additional Post Graduation education such as MEng, MASc, PHD considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 10 Years’ Experience working directly in management of multi discipline design for transit operations, infrastructure and/or railway maintenance facilities and shall be responsible for overseeing all phases of the Assignment lifecycle;
  • Professional experience on projects in multiple phases of delivery; new build design/commissioning/operations and experience related to the full range of infrastructure delivery methods including Design-Bid-Build (“DBB”), Design-Build ("DB"), Advanced Public Private Partnerships (“P3”) and Alternative Finance and Procurement (“AFP”) models;
  • Professional and educational experience related to the project management, design and construction of transit, commercial and municipal infrastructure, including but not limited to transit stations (above and below grade), Maintenance Facilities, railway yards, parking structures, grade parking areas including PPUDO, tracks, signals, bridges, grade separations, underground tunnels and rehabilitation of transit facility building projects;
  • Project management experience, focusing on design, schedule development, constructability and staging plans during construction;
  • Experience dealing with construction activities relating to design changes and controlling verification/validation of the design process.
  • Experience managing contractor claims and project budget/cost control.
  • Experience in assisting in permit applications, property requirements and other approvals for the design process to proceed.
  • Experience in providing risk profiles and understanding of risk notification to support the design growth prior to construction activities commencing.
  • Professional experience in projects where there are different levels of government and where government agencies are the stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated experience in projects where there are different levels of government and where government agencies are the stakeholders;
  • Knowledge of Safety and Security certification processes;
  • Proven experience in the rail or transport sector, including: local rail transport, including tramways, light rail, rapid transit, mixed-traffic metropolitan passenger;
  • Primary experience in urban rail and transit including demonstrated experience in the constraints of the rail right-of-way considered an asset;
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio;
  • Possess excellent communication skills, that offer a collaborative and interactive approach to clients needs and driving stakeholder needs to final resolution.
  • Strong presentation and report writing skills
