WSP is currently seeking a Technician to join our Municipal Engineering department, located at our Owen Sound office.  Reporting to the Manager this position will be responsible for surveying, CADD Civil 3D, field inspection, and project design on municipal projects.


Responsibilities will include design and drafting of infrastructure projects and assisting team members with project requirements including but not limited to:

  • Contribute in engineering design assignments in a team environment;
  • Participate in the development of concept, preliminary and detailed engineering drawings, designs and plans, including plan & profiles, sections and details, for design, tender, construction and as-constructed drawing sets, and contract documents;
  • Construction inspection on projects in the counties of Grey and Bruce, and surrounding areas;
  • Resolving construction issues with the assistance of the site project manager and field supervisors;
  • Quantity measurements, daily reporting, and participation in construction meetings;
  • Completion of construction as-built for record keeping/approval purposes;
  • Provide assistance to project manager with day to day project operations;
  • Communications/scheduling with city/municipal inspectors on assigned projects to ensure compliance with contract standards/specifications;
  • Preparation of quantity take offs, tender documents and specifications; and
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Graduate of a Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering Design & Drafting diploma program;
  • 3+ years of experience with Civil 3D in a variety of projects – (road reconstructions and site plan approvals would be an asset);
  • Experience completing topographic surveys would be an asset;
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specs;
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal, including teamwork and interpersonal abilities;
  • Comfortable in working independently in both an office and field environment;
  • Ability to take initiative and attention to detail; and
