WSP is currently seeking a full time Water and Wastewater Operator to join our Municipal Engineering group, located at our Owen Sound office.  Reporting to the Manager this position will be part of a team responsible for operation and maintenance of Ontario Regulation 170/03, non-municipal residential and non-residential water systems, Ontario Regulation 3109/08 water systems and a wastewater lagoon system.


  • Conduct free chlorine and turbidity readings
  • Make adjustments to chemical dosing pumps and instrumentation
  • Collect microbiological and chemical samples as per Ontario Regulation 170/03
  • Maintain accurate operations log/records
  • Maintain chemical and consumables inventory
  • Conduct routine maintenance of water systems
  • Report Adverse Water Quality Incidents
  • Trouble shoot operational and equipment issues
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Municipal Class Water Treatment and Distribution certificates, or Water Subsystem or Limited Surface Water Certificate;
  • This position requires the operator to travel and therefore the successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license in Ontario. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s/he has a valid driver’s license upon being hired;
  • Municipal Class Wastewater Collection and Treatment certificates preferred or OIT certificates
  • Ability to take initiative and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal, including teamwork and interpersonal abilities;
  • Efficient, reliable and able to accommodate flexible work arrangements;
  • Comfortable in working independently and in a field environment; and
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and on-call.
