TORONTO/VANCOUVER

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to join our Resources Group, located at our Toronto or Vancouver office.  Reporting to the Manager of the Mining Group, this position will be responsible for business development, providing mine designs, advisory services, operation support and technical studies. Require experienced person to work independently, ensure accuracy of design engineering work, and meet established deadlines. Experience in both operational and consulting is preferred. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote the company and attract new business;
  • Prepare scope of services for mine studies (PEA, PFS, FS);
  • Conduct site investigations for mine design projects;
  • Evaluate new technology, mining equipment and methods;
  • Conduct data analysis including preparing parameters for mine design;
  • Provide coordination with various departments and disciplines as required for project implementation, mine design, and inspection;
  • Mentor junior staff;
  • Project manage mine design studies, due diligence reviews;
  • Perform engineering calculations;
  • Provide cost estimating review and assistance;
  • Write and review technical reports and construction specifications;
  • Other duties as assigned;
  • Travel to various client sites, attend project meetings, and conduct field reviews, typically on short notice;
  • Must be able to attend mine sites and observe all applicable safety regulations;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to work and complete tasks independently, make informed decisions, and take responsibility on technical matters,
  • Must possess a team player attitude and be able to work in project team environment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in Mine Engineering;
  • Professional Engineer in Ontario or able to transfer license;
  • 20+ years of experience, underground mine design experience preferred;
  • Understanding of open pit operations;
  • Mine ventilation design experience;
  • Extensive grasp and sound technical knowledge of mining engineering fundamentals and techniques used for underground operations;
  • Strong knowledge of geology, rock mechanics, and mineral processing;
  • Excellent knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Strong working knowledge of a mining software: Surpac, Whittle, Vulcan, Deswik;
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues and clients in a professional manner;
  • Flexibility to travel as required for project work;
  • Fluent in the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Functionable in a second language (French or Spanish) desired.
