Job Summary:  Under the direction of the Vice President, Equity and Learning the Director, Internal Learning will lead the capacity building of Program staff to support improved student outcomes in partner sites in alignment with NTC’s mission and theory of action. The Director, IL will deepen NTC’s expertise and ability to disrupt the predictability of inequitable outcomes for underserved students, defined as Black, Latinx, and indigenous students; immigrants; multilingual students; students with disabilities; and students living in poverty. The goal of this work is to build the skills and competencies of NTC staff to support partner sites in closing the achievement gap for the most underserved students through providing equitable access and success with rigorous content. 

Working collaboratively and cross-functionally, the Director, IL will support the assessment of NTC’s current products and services and make recommendations to ensure existing and new products and services are current, relevant, and aligned with our mission, vision, and core values. In addition, the Director, IL will lead efforts to create systems around internal knowledge management to support our Program staff.

Lead Program Delivery Internal Learning and Knowledge Management

Design and lead internal learning and coaching opportunities, aligned to organization-wide learning priorities, to build Program staff knowledge of equity-focused instructional and consultation practices including: 

  • Assessing student, school, and system needs in order to support systems and schools through inquiry-based consultation 
  • Identifying and strengthening key conditions to leverage coaching models that actively engage educators in deepening the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the diverse needs of every student 
  • Building the capacity of teachers and leaders to understand the needs of underserved students and implement equitable, culturally responsive, and standards-aligned curriculum and instruction 
  • Supporting our partners in developing coherence and structures for sustaining the work by including partners inside and outside of the system 
  • Co-constructing measures of success and collaboratively monitoring progress to inform decision-making 
  • Work to ensure that our organizational focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is integrated into all internal learning opportunities
  • Remain abreast with current best practices in CCSS and 21st Century Learning implementation and instruction from around the country
  • Observe and provide feedback to staff in-field coaching and facilitating professional learning
  • Be a thought partner to client leads in planning client consultation and co-developing CCSS-aligned and equity-focused forums
  • Lead learning walks with staff and devises learning opportunities based on data collected
  • Contribute to the knowledge management system to capture and share work and learnings across Program
  • Share best practices and news from within and outside the education sector to support Program staff
  • Support initial onboarding of Program staff 

Provide Partner Support, as needed 

  • May provide consultative services and high-quality professional development for partners, based on the expertise needed
  • Provide information and make presentations to various stakeholders about best practices related to high-quality coaching, instructional leadership, and building strong instructional cultures.
  • Represent NTC at events or meetings with stakeholders
  • Support philanthropic fundraising efforts 
  • Support the development of National Program Leader Network (NPLN) content
  • Support the revisions of Presenter Institute content


  • At least 8 years in training, human resources, learning and development, and/or related experience
  • Passionate commitment to and belief in NTC’s mission and diversity, equity, and inclusion - for the students NTC serves but also as a critical part of a healthy organizational culture, with at least 3 years of experience in advancing diversity and inclusion in a dynamic environment
  • Commitment to understanding self and bias to best combat historical and institutional inequities
  • Teaching and coaching experience, ideally in a district that serves the students NTC identifies in our mission
  • Successful experience designing and delivering adult professional development
  • Demonstrated commitment to NTC’s values (lead with equity, act with courage, empower students and communities, foster belonging and stay curious)

Deep knowledge of/experience with:

  • Gathering and analyzing data at multiple levels (student-level data, teacher practice, mentor/coach practice, school culture, leadership practice, district level) to assess and improve program quality
  • Data-driven, systems-level consultation 
  • Meeting social, emotional and academic needs of systemically underserved students; Standards, content, assessment, and best practices for curriculum implementation and building optimal learning environments for underserved students - specifically students of color, English Language Learners, students with disabilities, immigrant students, and students living in poverty
  • Culturally Responsive Pedagogy
  • Building skills, change mindsets and instructional behaviors of educators at all levels
  • Adult learning and coaching best practices, in-person and virtual, across multiple stakeholders

  • Work normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
  • Limited physical effort required
  • Hearing, repetitive hand motions, sitting, talking, typing
  • May have substantial national travel (at least 25-30%)
