New Teacher Center (NTC) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to disrupting the predictability of educational inequities for systemically underserved students by accelerating educator effectiveness. Founded by teachers in 1998, NTC works with leaders at all levels of a system to center students’ needs to transform professional learning. In 2019-20, NTC developed the instructional leadership of over 8,000 instructional leaders to reach 25,000 teachers and impact the learning of 1.8M students in over 360 districts across 25 states. NTC is seeking a dynamic Manager, Partnerships and Development who is interested in playing a role in improving teaching and learning in our schools; is excited to engage in a variety of revenue generating activities including, grant and proposal writing, prospect research, communications, and project and campaign management; thrives in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment; and wants to be part of a team that partners closely with our Program department to ensure tight alignment.
This position provides an exciting opportunity for a strong project manager, writer, and collaborator who is ambitious, analytical, and detail-oriented. The Partnerships and Development Manager reports directly to the Director, Partnerships and Development.

The ideal candidate for this position:

- Has strong analytical skills. This person will enjoy using data. They will be able to thoroughly and accurately read, understand, analyze and summarize data, and extrapolate trends in order to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Has the ability to zoom in and out. This person will prioritize their day-to-day work but will also be able to zoom out to serve as a strategic thought partner to internal team members. They will help drive strategy while simultaneously managing the details.
- Has strong project management skills. The person in this role will need strong systems to keep track of large amounts of information and competing priorities. They will be responsible for making sure programs are on track to meet revenue goals while also having a pulse on expenses and forecasts to directly support budgets.
- Has the ability to motivate and influence others. This person will possess strong verbal and written communication skills in order to motivate and influence others. This includes managing up and across teams effectively. They share knowledge generously with peers and they know where internal and external resources are to pull together content as needed for the drafting of proposals. They will be comfortable drafting narratives for client-facing proposals to support business development.
- Enjoys making the complex simple. This person will be responsible for deciphering complex information and making it digestible and actionable via written and verbal communication.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
The following is an overview of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. The employee may perform other duties as required.
- Lead the writing of grant and fee-for-service proposals for specific regions, taking them from start to finish. This includes:
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders in Program Delivery, Finance, and Business Development to manage the timely submissions of proposals
- Writing content that successfully tells the story of our work and captures project outcomes, deliverables and budgets that is compelling to potential partners and funders
- Editing proposals to final to ensure clarity and conciseness in language
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders on the management and development of funder reports
- Support facilitation of internal regional revenue generating meetings in collaboration with Director, Partnerships and Development that includes preparing a clear agenda and meeting materials
- Create collateral with the support of the Director of Marketing and Communications and direction of the Director, Partnerships and Development that includes but is not limited to the following: concept papers, one-page documents that summarize specific areas of work, pitch decks, talking points, case study content
- Manage boiler plate language bank for grant and fee-for-service proposals, keeping it updated, sharing across internal teams
- Proactively identify and research potential fundraising and fee-for-service opportunities, bringing analysis to the Director, Partnerships and Development and other key internal stakeholders
- Prepare key internal stakeholders for partner meetings that include: conducting partner related research, communicating findings in a clear and concise manner, and preparing talking points
- Interact with NTC executives and funder representatives as required to complete proposals and continue cultivation efforts
- Support partner and funder communications initiatives
- Support the Director, Partnerships and Development in building the revenue generating capacity and culture of the organization--including the skills, knowledge, and abilities of internal stakeholders to engage with institutional and individual donors and with district- and state-level partners
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree a plus
- 3+ years of professional experience requiring external written communication, strong analytical skills, and leadership of complex, group-based projects with concrete deliverables
- 1-2 years of development and/or grant-writing experience
- Ability to lead project management and manage up
- Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Adept at synthesizing info from a variety of sources into a compelling and persuasive narrative
- Experience in written and verbal communications and collateral development and fluency in PowerPoint/Google Slides and Google Docs/Word/PDF
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that inspire confidence from a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including funders, client partners, and junior and senior members of NTC staff
- Motivate a group to remain schedule-driven, even when they are not under the same deadlines that you are experiencing
- Quick study; self-reflective and strive for continuous improvement
- Ability to create and refine a program/project budget in Microsoft Excel, and help design budget modifications and tradeoffs when necessary
- Ability to multitask, especially in managing multiple proposals simultaneously; outstanding time-management skills
- Moderate to strong proficiency in Salesforce or other CRM
- Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, and particularly in MS Excel
- Experience in the non-profit and K-12 education sectors a strong plus
