Job Summary:

The Instructional Designer and Coach will develop high-quality products and services for NTC’s face-to-face and virtual professional learning. This Instructional Designer will be passionate about supporting equitable outcomes and disrupting systemic inequities by carefully crafting thoughtful learning experiences for adults. They will have deep experience and expertise in designing instruction to create reflective and joyful educators and to empower those educators to act as agents of change for sustaining school communities. In addition to designing these resources, the individual in this position will create a Coaching Handbook to use while providing coaching (in-person and/or virtual)  to individual educators and district- or school-based coaches using the professional learning content and platform.

Potential pathways and areas of specialization for this position include:

  • Support for educators of multilingual learners,
  • Support for early childhood educators, and 
  • Building strong relationships through social and emotional learning competencies and providing SEL-anchored instructionally focused support for teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders.

The individual must possess some combination of experience and deep knowledge with:

  • Literacy and Math-specific content essentials, K-12, SEL frameworks and best practices, Instructional Core
  • Adult and online learning best practices 
  • Diverse student populations, with focus on NTC’s priority student populations (Black, LatinX, Indigenous, students living in poverty, ELLs, immigrant students, students with disabilities)
  • Visual and multimedia creation
  • Assessment design and best practices
  • Universal Design & Learner variability
  • Instructional coaching and school leadership
  • Formatting & editing to a brand standard 
  • Project management

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

The following is an overview of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. The employee may perform other duties as required.

  • Develop content for educator professional learning with a focus on one or more of these content types:
    • Virtual content - both asynchronous and synchronous - powerpoint presentations, participant packets, and facilitator-facing support resources
    • Action-research templates for classroom use and implementation
    • Program overviews and foundational documents
    • Supporting infographics, audio recordings, videos, and other and multimedia 
  • Review, format, edit, and revise professional learning in alignment with the NTC Content and Design Manual  and feedback from stakeholders
  • Participate in teams to design professional learning products and services for NTC
  • Identify and strengthen key conditions to leverage coaching models that actively engage educators in deepening the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the diverse needs of every student
  • Build the capacity of teachers and leaders to understand the needs of underserved students and implement equitable, culturally responsive, and standards-aligned curriculum and instruction
  • Communicate regularly with supervisor regarding each content pathway’s  progress and strategic support in alignment with the contracted scope of work
  • Coordinate with Program Solutions team and partner to develop, monitor, and analyze implementation and impact data
  • Demonstrate agency and engage in self-directed learning to meet partner needs and share learnings across teams and the department
  • Manage personal calendar, travel, and job responsibilities
  • Embrace the NTC Theory of Action and Mission and Vision, including:
    • A commitment to equity and deepening cross-cultural agility by exploring own identity and biases to best combat historical and institutional inequities
    • Contribution to internal collaborative learning and spotlight successes and problems of practice


  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Curriculum Design or related field preferred
  • Knowledge and experience designing and conducting professional learning for teachers, instructional coaches, and/or school leaders 
  • Knowledge of online design and delivery, particularly around asynchronous content
  • Deep knowledge of professional teaching and/or administrative standards, student content standards, assessment and methods that improve student achievement in core standard areas
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in teaching, educational administration, and/or SEL-related field
  • Knowledge of school reform, professional learning communities, and the impact of coaching and adult learning theories and practices
  • Ability to manage one’s time and productivity in a fluid, team-oriented, work environment with a high level of initiative, creativity and flexibility
  • Ability to use feedback to improve self, program and community  
  • Excellent written English, including structure, spelling and grammar, including a meticulous approach to work and an eye for detail
  • Ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively to meet contract, budget and schedule requirements
  • Proficiency in Google Drive, Microsoft Word, Power Point
  • Proficiency in multimedia production tools or other content development tools, including Adobe Acrobat Professional; Photoshop, Screenflow, Quicktime, Zencastr, and InDesign desirable

ADA Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Work normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
  • Limited physical effort required
  • Hearing, repetitive hand motions, sitting, talking, typing
  • Approximately 25% travel required
