ABOUT THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT:
The Community Development Department (CDD) is the planning agency for the City of Cambridge. Our mission is to foster a livable, sustainable, just, and equitable community. Encompassing four programmatic divisions -- Community Planning, Economic Opportunity & Development, Transportation Planning, and Zoning & Development, we engage and collaborate with community partners, other government agencies, businesses, and residents to make Cambridge a desirable place to live, work, learn, play, and innovate.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The newly created position of Chief of Planning Strategy is a senior leadership position, reporting directly to the Assistant City Manager for Community Development. The ideal candidate will be data and evidence driven, deeply knowledgeable about urban planning, focused on equitable community engagement, and able to represent the department at public meetings related to CDD’s ongoing work in all disciplines within the department’s purview. The Chief of Planning Strategy is responsible for the following enterprise functions to support all of CDD’s program areas:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer. Must read and analyze large quantities of information. Must have sufficient mobility to get back and forth from office to off-site meetings. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Standard office environment, which includes fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Moderate noise level, which can elevate with phone calls and walk in members of the public. Busy office work environment characterized by multiple work demands from department staff, a great deal of customer interaction, and heavy email and call volume. This position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City's Telework Policy depending on operational needs.
