

ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Department of Public Works is a 250-person department committed to providing dependable, high-quality services; developing a safe, healthy, livable environment; supporting and developing the work force; engaging the community and providing excellent customer service; and planning for a sustainable future. The Senior Engineer is a key member of the Engineering Division team at the Department of Public Works and reports to the Assistant Commissioner for Engineering/ City Engineer through a Supervising Engineer.
The Senior Engineer will work towards the goal of providing efficient operations and excellent customer service. The person in this role will be an important contributor to the Department’s Large Capital Improvement programs in the areas of sewer separation, stormwater management, street and sidewalk reconstruction and other public infrastructure improvements. They will provide sound decision-making and problem solving, financial responsibility, and effective stakeholder coordination.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is primarily on site, requiring travel to and through construction zones, driving, walking, bending, squatting, reaching and stretching. Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to operate office equipment including copiers, printers and scanners. Executes multiple tasks involving keyboarding, telephones, writing, bending, reaching and lifting boxes of files (up to 10 lbs.).
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Outdoors, in construction sites and congested City roadways under all weather conditions. Standard office environment, which includes fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Busy office work environment characterized by multiple work demands from staff and customer interaction. This position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City’s Telework Policy depending on operational needs.
