Position Summary:

Project architects oversee the design and construction of Arkansas State University's building projects, including and not limited to:
• Capital construction
• Building and area remodels
• Landscape projects
• Safety projects
• Signage projects

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Creating building and project specifications and plans
  • Create preliminary concept drawings and associated documents
  • Preparing budgets, material documents, and specification lists
  • Ensure project plans follow Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design and other applicable standards and/or codes
  • Overseeing building contractors and construction crews
  • Visiting the site(s) regularly to ensure construction adheres to state regulations
  • Ensuring the project remains on time and within specifications
  • Coordinating with customers, design professionals, construction management, and contractors
  • Serve on various University committees
  • Hires staff and provides assignments, supervision and training to subordinate staff; evaluates and reviews staff performance
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the University Design and Construction standards
  • Leads, maintains, and reports on the University’s master planning efforts
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of construction costs and time frames

Familiarity with Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design

Excellent communication and reporting skills

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Bachelor's Degree in architecture, design, or a related field

AutoCad and associated drafting skills

Five (5) year's of experience
