Position Summary:
The Education Specialist collaborates with the Talent Search staff to create curriculum, classroom activities, and resources for 500 disadvantaged middle school students in target schools. Talent Search programming focuses on the integration of and alignment with academic standards of public schools. This position is governed by the U.S. Department of Education, state and federal laws, Henderson State University, and ASU. The Education Specialist is under the supervision of the Talent Search Director, TRiO Director, and the HSU Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Strategic Initiatives,
Duties & Responsibilities:
Identify disadvantaged public-school students who have the potential to succeed in higher education. Education Specialist provide academic, career, and financial counseling to participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue to complete their post secondary education. In addition, the program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assists participants with the post secondary application process. Education Specialist also encourages persons who have not completed education programs at the secondary or post secondary level to enter or reenter and complete post secondary education.Talent Search aims to increase the number of disadvantaged students to complete high school and enroll in and complete their post secondary education.
Talent Search provides 1) tutorial services, career exploration, aptitude assessments, counseling, mentoring programs, workshops, and information on post secondary institutions; 2) education or counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students; 3) guidance on and-assistance in secondary school reentry, alternative education programs for secondary school dropouts, entry into general educational development programs or post secondary education; and 4) programs and activities _previously mentioned that are specially designed for students who are limited English proficient, students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in post secondary education, students with disabilities, students who are homeless children and youths, students who are in foster care or are aging out of the foster care system or other disconnected students.
Education Specialist provide:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of Arkansas state curriculum frameworks.
Ability to research, develop, evaluate and revise curriculum materials.
Excellent computer skills.
Ability to present ideas and information to diverse groups.
Exceptional writing and editing skills.
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, special education, or a related field.
Two years of experience in related educational programs or community services field experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, special education, or a related field.
Experience designing instructional materials/resources.
Knowledge of Arkansas state curriculum frameworks.
