Position Summary:

Arkansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a clinical assistant or associate professor in Small Animal Emergency Medicine. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position incorporates clinical work (50%), research/scholarly activity and service. Teaching of DVM students will be in a competency-based veterinary curriculum incorporating lecture, lab and small group learning.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teach year 1-4 DVM students the principles and practice of emergency medicine in the classroom, clinical skills laboratory, and clinical practice settings
  • Provide excellent patient care and clinical service, including communication with clients and referring veterinarians 
  • Contribute to competency-based curriculum development with a focus on small animal emergency medicine across years 1-4 of the DVM curriculum 
  • Contribute to objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and other skills-based assessments 
  • Contribute to college and university committees and/or serve on regional or national professional organizations
  • Contribute to scholarly endeavors through collaborative educational research and/or educational innovations
  • Mentor and advise DVM students
  • Other duties as assigned

· Ability to prioritize tasks, deliver results in a timely manner, and function independently

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday Variable hours (approximately 4 pm-12 am when on clinical duty, 8 am-5 pm when not on clinic duty)
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

· DVM or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications
· Board certification in a small animal specialty (preferred) (e.g., ACVECC)
· Two years of teaching experience (preferred)
· Experience in competency-based veterinary education (preferred)
