Position Summary:

Health Professions Academic Advisor informs and assists current students and prospective students. This includes pre-professional semester schedule planning and answering questions about the programs in the College of Nursing and Health Professions during advising or recruiting events. This position may require travel and periodic evening or weekend hours.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provides academic advising to students in selected health professions by: 

    • Accurately advising students according to degree requirements
    • Making sure Honors students have correct honors courses
    • Is aware of:
      • Scholarship requirements and advises accordingly
      • International Program requirements and advises accordingly
      • Workforce, TAA and VA requirements and advises accordingly S
  • Schedules student advising in a timely fashion
  • Facilitates documentation and record-keeping in advising-related software 
  • Promptly answers emails and phone calls in support of student appointments and questions. 
  • Maintains accurate student records
  • Meets regularly with Program Directs and Chairs of the programs for which they advise to stay up-to-date with program information
  • Maintains good rapport with students, other advisors, and Program Directors/Chairs 
  • Recruits and promotes Health Professions programs by participating in: 
    • Area career and academic fairs
    • Recruitment events 
    • Honors College Days 
    • New Student Registration Days 
  • Corresponds with all student services areas across campus 
  • Participates in the assessment process when necessary
  • May teach a Making Connections course as needed
  • May serve on assigned program, college and university committees
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must have working knowledge of requirements of various programs in the health professions.

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position.
