Position Summary:

The Department of Government, Law & Policy at Arkansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in American politics, beginning Fall 2025. The potential candidate must have a PhD at hand. Candidates who are advanced ABDs will be considered, although obtaining the PhD degree by August 2025 is required. The position is open with respect to a specific area of specialization in American Politics, although candidates whose research and teaching interests focus on American Political Institutions are particularly encouraged to apply: legislative, executive, judicial systems, or state government. Candidates who have a strong interest in leading and directing internship programs, like our partnership with The Washington Center, are preferred.

Requirements: (1) A statement of purpose indicating research and teaching interests and credentials, (2) Curriculum Vitae, (3) Graduate transcripts, (4) Evidence of teaching ability, (5) A Writing sample (a peer reviewed article that was recently published or dissertation chapter will suffice), and (6) A list of three academic references that will be contacted by the search committee if short-listed. All items listed as requirements must be submitted in order for your file to be considered complete. Review of applications will begin on December 4, 2024. Arkansas State University is a comprehensive Carnegie classified R2 public university located approximately 70 miles northwest of Memphis. The department offers a well-rounded curriculum to its 100 majors in the undergraduate program in political science. The department also offers a NASPAA-accredited online MPA program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The teaching load of the faculty is in alignment with a Carnegie-classified R2 institution. Faculty workload includes research, creative activity, service, and professional development in the best interest of the students and community at large.

 

Faculty members deliver instruction, carry out research, perform service for their respective professions and community, and participate in the management of the University through shared governance. Each member of the faculty has the duty to deliver instruction and maintain a learning environment consistent with the highest standards of the profession. The faculty has a responsibility to set degree requirements, assess when they are met, and establish and maintain curricula that meet professional standards and fulfill the educational goals of the University.
