STUDENT ASSISTANT EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Fitness Training Supervisor, the Student Boxing Fitness Assistant is responsible for monitoring the boxing studio to ensure a clean and safe environment, assisting members in the use of equipment, and assisting staff in enforcing policy and procedure. Considerable on-the-job training provided.

 

JOB DUTIES:

·        Serves as the on-duty attendant for the Determination boxing studio.

·        Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the Determination boxing studio and alerts supervisory personnel in the event of an emergency.

·        Trains, coaches, and guides individuals and groups of Student Recreation Center members through a workout utilizing basic, intermediate, and advanced boxing techniques.

·        Provides basic instruction to members on the use of the boxing equipment and other fitness equipment in the boxing studio.

·        Ensures that the boxing studio is maintained in a clean, safe and organized manner.

·        Reports and documents maintenance concerns for equipment in the boxing studio.

·        Monitors open recreation use of the boxing studio.

·        Must attend required Student Recreation Center and USU employee orientation and trainings as well as department specific trainings and meetings

·        Performs other related duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

·        Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student

EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

·        No previous experience and/or specialized education required for employment

·        American Red Cross or department approved First Aid, CPR, and AED certification shall be obtained within 30 days. Training is periodically offered free of charge by the USU. Applicants unable to attend USU-sponsored training are required to obtain certification at their own expense

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

·        The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

SUPERVISION

Supervision is provided by the Fitness Training Supervisor

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS

Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Work is occasionally performed outdoors, in different climactic conditions. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule, must possess an ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays, finals weeks, and during academic interim and break periods; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Student Boxing Fitness Assistant. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to climb or balance and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally sit for extended periods and regularly walk around building; talk and hear; be able to detect smoke, heat and subtle smells. The employee must frequently move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds (if applicable). Specific vision abilities required but this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
