ABOUT THE ROLE

The Community Development Department (CDD) is seeking a part-time UX Design and Development Assistant to drive the Department's website migration and create the department’s internal communications resources page. The role will primarily involve migrating CDD's existing website onto the City's new web platform. The UX Designer will conduct iterative user research and prototyping to optimize the site’s information architecture and usability. Additional responsibilities include managing communication materials and key resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES:

Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the UX Design and Development Assistant will oversee:

   Website migration and redesign

  • Collaborate with Department members to implement a department-wide content audit of the current CDD website; identify existing needs and wishes.
  • Conduct user research, working with the Department’s Community Engagement Team.
  • Ensure that all content adheres to website guidelines and standards, including accessibility and SEO best practices.

 Communications resource and asset management

  • Conduct a content audit of existing communication materials.
  • Design and organize a departmental Key Communications Resources page.
  • Establish a SharePoint library for departmental Communication materials, optimizing file management and searchability across divisions.
  • Build and maintain a portal page in our asset management system that houses communication media. Examples of media include photos, brand resources, and graphic templates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in UX design, web development, digital media, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of HTML.
  • Experience with content management systems and Microsoft Office, specializing in SharePoint and BrandFolder, is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Refined UX writing and content design with practice using plain language
  • Creatively driven, practicing critical thinking and problem-solving strategies
  • Human-centered approach to designing
  • Capable of making decisions based on data
  • Strong time management and project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organization
  • Ability to work as part of a team with excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including the ability and willingness to learn new programs and platforms
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards including WCAG and Section 508 Standards
  • Experience working with brand guidelines

WORK ENVIROMENT: Standard office environment. Fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Moderate noise level. This position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City’s Telework Policy, depending on operational needs.
