Postdoctoral Scientist Fellow, Genome Engineering

Job Summary:

We are seeking an agile CRISPR genome engineering postdoctoral fellow to join our Research & Development group. The candidate will be responsible for developing new applications using diversified novel CRISPR systems on microfluidic platform. The position will report to the senior director of Research and will participate in the early stage of product development, from proving concept to validating the SOPs. He/She will closely interact and collaborate with interdisciplinary technology groups from Engineering, Software, and biochemitry teams to initiate and execute CRISPR based genome engineering projects. The successful candidate must be prepared to engage in wet-lab driven research works and have proven technical abilities for the cutting edge science and technology development. Th candidate will also be expected to have strong analytical skills and strong oral/written communication skills. At the end of postdoc training, the candidates will have an opportunity to pursue full employment options at BGI.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform genome engineering activities using different CRISPR-Cas systems in cell lines or in vitro.
  • Work together with a team of cross-sea technical experts, come up with ideas and contribute to the execution of the ideas independently and collaboratively.
  • Be self-sufficient on project/activities assigned yet communicate collaboratively within and beyond the project team with concise reports.
  • Maintain expertise on latest technologies and best practices used in the gene editing fields.
  • Work in a fast paced industrial environment.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in molecular/cellular biology, biochemistry, synthetic biology, systems biology, or a related field
  • Prevous research experience with any of the following area: discoverying novel CRISPR systems; uncovering CRISPR-Cas components; figuring out CRISPR-Cas function mechanisms; or utilizing CRISPR-Cas in disease modeling, drug screen, or molecular diagnostics. 
  • Demonstration of success in graduate school (e.g., high quality publications)
  • Ability to work independently and able to balance multiple tasks or projects.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in NGS is a plus
  • Experience in standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, qPCR, DNA cloning and sub-cloning, site specific mutagenesis, vector construction or synthetic biology) is a plus
