The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is seeking a News Anchor to present the news in a fair, balanced and concise manner at our headquarters in Springfield, VA. 

The News Anchor delivers news in a distinctive style that will attract and retain viewers with a voice quality that is authoritative yet conversational, utilizes his/her strong news judgment and establish good working relationship with Executive Producer, Senior Producers and Producers.

The Incumbent delivers the news from Teleprompter or scripts in an unbiased manner in speech and non-verbal communication. Collaborates with producing staff during the news production process. Actively participates in editorial meetings, Research and craft probing questions for newsmakers interviewed live, follows commands from Director and Producer in the control room while newscast is on the air.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Television News Anchor include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering news from Teleprompter or scripts in an unbiased manner in speech and non-verbal communication.
  • Delivering news in an impeccable Modern Standard Arabic. 
  • Delivering news in a distinctive style that will attract and retain viewers with a tone and voice quality that are authoritative yet conversational.
  • Proofreading news and editing copy into his/her own reading style. Collaborates with production staff during the news production process.
  • Skilled reader, adept at ad-libbing during breaking news and ability to handle on-air problems.
  • Maintaining composure on-air and exhibits resiliency and responsiveness.
  • Researching and craft probing questions for live interviews.  
  • Taking direction from Executive Producer, Senior Producers and Producers.
  • Following commands from Director and Producer in the control room while newscast is on the air.
  • Actively participating in editorial meetings.
  • Writing compelling, factually correct, creative stories for newscasts. 
  • Producing packages for special shows or newscasts when requested.
  • Complying with MBN’s Journalistic Code of Ethics, Employee handbook, and office policies and procedures.

Candidates are required to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or broadcast journalism is preferred.
  • 3-5 years news anchoring experience.
  • Excellent Modern Standard Arabic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Demonstrated editorial judgment.
  • Knowledge and awareness of major news stories and developments in the MENA region.
  • Demonstrated ability to interview newsmakers.
  • Strong on-camera presence and personality required to present news material.
  • Ability to work well with others in a professional environment under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise self-discipline and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of journalistic ethics and libel laws.
  • Ability to accommodate flexible work schedule to support 24/7 news environment, including overnight coverage.
