Audio Managing Producer – SAWA

PRIMARY FUNCTION: MBN seeks a seasoned Audio Managing Producer to lead and cultivate a dynamic audio journalism unit at our Springfield, VA headquarters. This strategic leader will be the architect of a robust, adaptable digital content powerhouse, crafting diverse, high-impact audio formats to serve present and future needs in the audio journalism landscape. Beyond mere production prowess, they'll foster a collaborative haven, nurture talent, and anticipate industry shifts, ensuring the unit's continued growth and stellar output.

The ideal candidate will be very organized, a strong communicator, a seasoned journalist, and pay close attention to detail, as well as possessing the following qualities:

  • Demonstrated expertise in Middle Eastern and American cultures, social and lifestyle spaces, effectively bridging cultural gaps
  • Proficient in leveraging digital journalism and audio storytelling techniques for engaging content
  • Adept at devising innovative content strategies, leading and managing teams of creators and producers
  • Highly skilled in navigating digital media platforms and actively staying updated on industry best practices
  • Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional interpersonal skills for comprehensive story gathering
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring consistently unique and highly shareable content.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and responsibilities noted below are considered the essential functions of the job.

  • Lead and oversee all operations related to content, creative, and dissemination for Sawa's diverse audio content.
  • Manage the entire production process from ideation to distribution, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual content strategy that aligns with organizational objectives and KPIs.
  • Establish measurable goals for the team, fostering accountability and driving achievement.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional departments (editorial, creative, research, marketing) to optimize resource allocation and ensure seamless content delivery.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of audio journalists, producers, and editors, providing mentorship and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Implement and maintain production workflows, upholding rigorous quality control standards for audio output and multimedia assets.
  • Manage all aspects of content creation, including pitch meetings, idea vetting, assignment distribution, and deadline enforcement.
  • Ensure editorial soundness and exceptional audio quality by scrutinizing all content, exceeding listener expectations.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and supervision to the content production team, ensuring adherence to editorial vision and brand voice.
  • Collaborate with producers, editors, peers, and partners to develop and execute captivating audio episodes from conception to completion.
  • Champion and incorporate innovative storytelling methods and techniques to elevate Sawa's audio offerings.
  • Utilize data and editorial expertise to shape and refine the content strategy, ensuring relevance and alignment with audience preferences.
  • Develop strategies to maximize the impact of original content across planning, engagement, and audience development teams.
  • Work closely with research and audience development teams to create audience-centric strategies for expanding Sawa's listener base.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive performance monitoring system, tracking content consumption and community engagement metrics.
  • Proactively explore and evaluate new content formats, platforms, and technologies to expand Sawa's reach and enhance listener engagement.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in mass communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in editorial roles, overseeing teams of producers and journalists for a minimum of 7 years.
  • Sound judgment and extensive knowledge of audio journalism and digital storytelling.
  • Proven track record in audio/radio production or digital media.
  • Proficient in explanatory journalism, showcasing a passion for simplifying complex events and subjects.
  • Exceptional understanding of journalism ethics, newsgathering standards, and best practices.
  • Strong grasp of online audio consumption patterns and target audiences.
  • Proficiency in multitasking, project prioritization, and effective communication of progress.
  • Experience in producing audio or video content within tight deadlines.
  • Extensive familiarity with distributed publishing platforms.
  • Proven ability to develop content strategies and mentor teams.
  • Adaptive to evolving trends in the ever-changing digital landscape.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills.
  • Thrives in a collaborative team environment characterized by fast-paced dynamics.
  • Fluent in both Arabic and English languages.
  • Knowledgeable in audio equipment, recording techniques, and audio editing software.
