Business Intelligence and Research Analyst             

The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN)  is  seeking an innovative Business Intelligence and Research Analyst   for our Office of the President Department at our headquarters in Springfield, VA. The Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN) is seeking a dynamic and motivated professional to fill the position of Business Intelligence and Research Analyst in its Department of Research. The Department of Research is responsible for measuring audiences for MBN TV, radio, and digital, and providing strategic insights. MBN is a non-profit grantee of the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM).

This is an exciting position for an experienced researcher who will have direct access to his/her stakeholders as well as an opportunity to explore new Machine Learning and AI tools to make research more accessible to non-research experts. He/she will work with experienced researchers and methodologists and a seasoned data storyteller at MBN and the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) to craft actionable and impactful research.

  ·         Managing and designing quantitative and qualitative research to assess MBN’s reach and impact in the Arab world.  MBN carries out approximately 7-10 quantitative and qualitative research projects in the Arab world each year and Candidate will likely manage 2-3 of these.  He/she will work with teams of experienced researchers on nationally representative surveys, including questionnaire and sample design, weighting, field observation, oversight of vendors in field, etc.  For qualitative research, Candidate will work more autonomously to design focus groups, in-depth interviews, monitoring panels, and other types of research. Candidate will craft discussion guides and screeners, review translations, and oversee Contractors in field.  These tasks will consume approximately 50% of Candidate’s time, although this could vary based on business needs.

·         Provide actionable research-based insights to key stakeholders and explore new approaches to presenting data.  Drawing on current and past national surveys, digital data, and qualitative research from MBN and the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), Candidate will create storyboards, written analytic papers, and briefings to assess key opportunities and challenges for MBN TV, digital, and audio content.

·         Candidate should have proven experience telling stories with data and presenting data in ways non-research stakeholders find actionable. As part of this task, Candidate will be encouraged to explore new methodologies to enhance the analysis and presentation of data, possibly to include Machine Learning and AI tools.  These tasks will consume approximately 35% of Candidate’s time, although this could vary based on business needs. 

·         Provide ad hoc support to the Director of Research and Program Review to help prepare data and insights for annual Congressional reporting requirements.  These tasks will consume approximately 15% of Candidate’s time, although this could vary based on business needs. 

  Candidates are required to have:

·         At least 3 years of experience conducting survey and qualitative researcher, either in a professional or academic setting. 

·         At least 3 years of experience working with SPSS in a professional or academic setting.  Candidate should have some training in statistics and have experience with regressions and significance testing. 

·         At least 3 years of experience writing analytic papers, either in a professional (preferred) or academic setting.

·         Basic understanding of emerging AI and Machine Learning tools and willingness to learn more about applying these tools to research data. 

·         Experience with data storytelling.

·         Experience with various analytics tools for websites and apps, such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, and Social Bakers.

·         Understanding of history and politics of the MENA and ability to understand written and spoken Arabic (fusha or at least one dialect). 

·         Authorization to work in the United States.
