Podcast Producer/Presenter

 

The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is seeking a Podcast Producer to develop a new slate of digital audio programming on the podcast platforms at our headquarters in Springfield, VA.

 

The Podcast Producer will enthusiastically embrace MBN’s mission of providing objective, accurate, and relevant news and information to the people of the Middle East about the region, the world, and the United States, as well as supporting democratic values by expanding the spectrum of ideas, opinions, and perspectives available in the region’s media.

The Podcast Producer will lead weekly podcast in collaboration with our podcast and creative teams, and alongside reporters and editors in MBN’s wider newsroom. The Podcast Host/Producer would have a hand in all aspects of production, from recording and booking interviews to pitching episode ideas and scripting, to audio editing.

The Podcast Producer must be self-sufficient, regularly meets deadlines, and swiftly tape, cut, script, voice, and mix quality audio content. The Podcast Host/Producer should understand what makes a conversational two-way, creatively pushes the boundaries of audio storytelling format.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES Duties and responsibilities noted below are considered to be the essential functions of the job

  • Develops, records and produces compelling podcasts & podcast episodes.
  • Identifies existing/internal (MBN’s output or US-related) podcast opportunities.
  • Calls, e-mails, and schedule guests to join the podcast.
  • Prepares questions before the interview.
  • Works with the other departments of MBN on producing podcasts out of other types of stories, such as TV reports, online articles or video explainers.
  • Produces and presents weekly podcasts (topics, scripts, recording and audio rough cuts), and works closely with sound designers on the final, polished versions.
  • Works on all aspects of the audio storytelling and production.
  • Records, edits, and publishes podcasts.
  • Reports, researches and writes podcast contents.
  • Coordinates production and logistics in studio and in the field.
  • Writes and edits headlines and descriptions for the weekly podcast
  • Works with the marketing team to push and promote across all platforms.

Candidates are required to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or relevant field.
  • At least 5 years of editorial experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Rigorous editorial judgement and editorial management skills.  
  • Mastery of journalistic ethics.
  • Outstanding writing, rephrasing, and editing skills in Arabic.
  • Ability to accommodate flexible work schedule to support 24/7 news environment.
  • Extensive experience behind a mic, either voicing news and/or hosting shows.
  • A minimum of two years of audio editing experience and deep familiarity with Audition, Pro-Tools, or similar audio software.
  • Professional scripting Skills for the ear and working with co-hosts, reporters, and guests.
  • Eagerness to experiment with creating compelling audio storytelling.
