The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is seeking a Producer to lead the creative development, production, content quality of assigned program at the Headquarters office in Springfield, VA.  MBN is a non-profit, multimedia broadcaster that provides news and information to audiences in the Middle East and North Africa through television, radio and digital properties in support of US diplomacy. 

Producers are responsible for the creative development, production, content quality of assigned programs; constructing fresh, informative, creative, compelling newscasts, summaries, updates and assigned special event coverage, ensuring balanced content consist with the mission goals of the company. Maintain the creative vision, look, and feel of programs aligned with the departments’ vision.  Must demonstrate strong editorial judgment; ensure journalistic standards of fairness, accuracy and relevancy.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and responsibilities noted below are considered the essential functions of the job.

  • Coordinates with Senior Producer on selecting timely topic material.
  • Prepares format/rundown for program or assigned special event coverage.
  • Writes stories for assigned program.
  • Actively participates in editorial meetings.
  • Clearly understands the major stories of the day and their relationship to the company mission and viewers.
  • Reviews all script from team members.
  • Obtains legal and editorial clearances from relevant officials.
  • Ensures that all additional production details are completed, including graphics, chyrons, etc.
  • Provides Control Room with critical information regarding the timing, content and execution of live shots while program is on-air/recording.
  • Ability to maintain composure in the control room.
  • Follows commands of Senior Producer in the control room when breaking news is on the air.
  • Aggressively pursues breaking news and acts accordingly in the highest professional standards while on air/recording.
  • Inputs and conduct final review of show content in ENPS to ensure a clean broadcast.
  • Determines show vision and showcase major stories.
  • Assigns and edit stories to team members.
  • Contributes story ideas on a daily, weekly and long-range basis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in journalism or broadcast journalism is preferred.
  • 2-3 years experience producing television shows.
  • Excellent Arabic writing skills.
  • Working knowledge and ability to operate within ENPS.
  • Solid editorial and creative judgment is essential.
  • Ability to work under intense deadline pressure.
  • Exercise self-discipline and time-management skills.
  • Sound editorial aMust be able to accommodate flexible work schedule to support 24/7 news environment including overnight coverage.
