The Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool, a public entity risk pool providing property, liability and workers' compensation coverages to more than 2,800 local governments in Texas, is seeking a Claims Specialist working in our Liability and Property Claims Department out of our main office located in Austin, Texas. 

This position performs specialized duties in the processing of assigned claims involving liability, property, and auto occurrences. 

Job Duties: 

  • Reviews member and third-party claims; reviews coverage, sets exposures and reserves, and initiates claim processes. 
  • Maintains records for all assigned claims. 
  • Reviews and handles litigation files. 
  • Communicates with attorneys regarding case evaluations; reviews attorney invoices. 
  • Reviews settlement proposals and prepares settlement documents. 
  • Reviews adjustor reports and member documentation support; reviews adjustor service invoices. 
  • Provides guidance for liability investigations and makes liability determinations. 
  • Reviews and adjusts damage assessments; prepares releases; processes payments. 
  • Maintains contact via telephone with members and third-party claimants regarding the status and resolution of claims; negotiates settlements. 
  • Assists members with claims inquiries and coverage questions. 
  • Performs related duties. 

Knowledge and skills: 

  • Knowledge of liability and property claims processing principles. 
  • Knowledge of insurance principles. 
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of property damage appraisal principles. 
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving. 
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for three to five years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Texas Department of Insurance Adjuster License required. 

Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications. Position carries a complete benefits package, including Medical, Dental, & Vision Insurance; participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System and a 457 Deferred Compensation with a Roth option.
