Be involved in projects with our Properties & Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. We are a global leader in the practice of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering and related specialty services for the built environment. Our work is embedded in the residences we live in, the healthcare facilities we rely on for routine medical procedures to life saving feats of medicine, the skyscrapers and buildings we work in, and the operations of our buildings.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Plumbing Engineer for our New York City, NY office.

Your Impact

  • Lead Project plumbing/fire protection Engineer capable of directing the project team. 
  • Project management activities including writing proposals, establishing budgets, reviewing billing, and managing client interactions.
  • Coordinates activities concerned with technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering design issues.
  • Coordinates the activities of technical staff from project award through project completion.
  • Ability to build relationship with Clients for future work.
  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assist with laying out installation of equipment, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, schematics, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, architects, and building and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior plumbing and mechanical design experience. 
  • Engineer license required.
  • Experience in Commercial, Residential, Fit-out, and Healthcare & Science + Technology Project Designs
  • Experience with DOB, DEP filings
  • Proficient with plumbing and mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues. 
  • Extensive knowledge of building and infrastructure design.
  • Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant plumbing and mechanical engineering and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations. 
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities, structures and systems, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, load calculations, discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Revit experience.
