This Opportunity

WSP is seeking a West Coast Trenchless Technology Practice Lead with previous experience and established relationships related to trenchless technology projects (Horizontal Directional Drilling, Micro tunneling, Auger Boring, etc.) to join our Geotechnical and Tunneling Technical Excellence Center. The successful candidate will lead and support the development of technical leadership on projects in the trenchless sector. The position requires an effective team leader who can work cooperatively to deliver business development, supervisory support of trenchless projects ensuring quality standards are met and the will help lead WSP internally and externally within this sector of business.

Your Impact

  • Lead the growth, innovation, and project delivery related to trenchless technology projects and client success for WSP's Geotechnical and Tunneling Technical Excellence Center for the West Coast of the United States
  • Lead trenchless technology projects, including managing a multi-disciplinary team of professionals for execution of design-build and design-bid-build trenchless technology projects
  • Lead business development, proposals, and client interviews; represent WSP at conferences/workshops as a technical subject matter expert
  • Develop new client relationships and enhance existing ones, including winning new work
  • Work with the National Practice Lead to strategize, develop, and implement winning strategies to grow the long-term potential of the business, particularly within the Trenchless Technology market
  • Collaborate with regional, district, and local office leaders to strategically drive the business, manage project performance, oversee overhead expenditures, and meet operational metrics
  • Assist WSP in attracting the best industry talent by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking including crafting a more attractive place to work, to help the business grow and thrive
  • Develop plans, specifications, special provisions, contract documents, and cost estimates
  • Interface with clients during project development and execution, working in collaboration with the Project Manager
  • Provide guidance to staff to help learn and grow our trenchless technology practice
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university and a Master's or Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering, Tunneling or Trenchless Technology
  • Minimum of 10+ years of demonstrated experience with trenchless technology construction projects, including business development, analysis and design
  • Strong client and project delivery experience in the Trenchless Technology market sector, with an understanding of other market sectors within the A/E/C industry
  • Experience leading large design-build Trenchless Technology projects
  • Previous working knowledge related to estimating jacking force, pipe pull-back and/or frac-out calculations
  • Experience interpreting geotechnical data reports and providing geotechnical interpretive reports and/or geotechnical baseline reports
  • Ability to read, understand, and develop plans and specifications
  • Extensive working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials
  • Previous experience related to presentation of technical topics to clients
  • Good organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities, and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex budgets and schedules
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  •  Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) certification
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Salary:  $100,800- 171,3000
