Autonomous Medical Devices Incorporated (AMDI), with its principal place of business in California, employs a world class team of engineers, scientists, clinicians, and manufacturing experts dedicated to the development and manufacture of point-of-care diagnostic devices using breakthrough microfluidics, protein engineering, and data/cloud connectivity. AMDI will launch its first products from its ISO:13485 certified 110,000 square foot facility in Santa Ana, CA.

 

Summary of Position

The Assay Development intern will be responsible for continued lab-based testing support of the Q-NAb IgG Tests. This is a summer internship program that is estimated for the duration of approximately 10 weeks designed to allow students gain valuable hands-on experience and industry exposure while working with our validated Q-NAb IgG Test Kits to conduct routine testing of clinical study samples. Students will have the opportunity to interact cross functionally with other departments to enhance their learning opportunities. 

Position is based onsite at our Santa Ana, CA facility.

Duration: Summer estimated for approximately 10 weeks

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete Lab Safety and other training as required.
  • Work in BSL2 lab handling blood products (serum and plasma) following good lab practices with respect to handling biological specimens.
  • Test COVER clinical study samples using Q-NAb IgG Test Kits according to the instructions provided under the supervision of R&D staff.
  • Maintain detailed record of lab work performed.
  • Organize test data in Excel workbook, perform basic statistical analysis and evaluate against data acceptance criteria.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s (rising junior or rising senior) or master’s program in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).
  • Able to use general lab equipment including benchtop centrifuge, pipettes and balance.
  • Able to take instructions from R&D staff and work independently with moderate supervision.
  • Able to follow written procedures, instructions for use, and make basic laboratory reagents.
  • Attention to detail, keep and maintain detailed records (lab notebook and electronic records).
  • Good listener, quick and engaged learner.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Familiarity with using 96-well plate readers.
  • Familiarity with Excel macros.

Work Environment

  • In-person position that requires working indoors in a BSL2 facility and testing laboratory environment.
  • Requires the use of personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to biohazardous waste and chemicals.
  • May possibly bend, stoop, lift, or carry as needed.
