Frontier-Kemper Constructors is the general contractor for the Kensico-Eastview Connection Tunnel Project. The scope of the approximately $1.1 billion contract entails the construction of a new deep rock tunnel between the Kensico Reservoir and the Catskill/Delaware Ultraviolet (CDUV) Light Disinfection Facility, both in Westchester County, New York. The new tunnel will provide an additional means of conveying water between the Kensico Reservoir and the CDUV Facility, enhancing operational resiliency and redundancy for New York City’s water supply system.

DESCRIPTION:

As an Equipment Manager at Frontier-Kemper, reporting to the Project Manager, you will have the opportunity to responsible for planning, coordinating and directing the maintenance/mechanical operations of all underground and surface related equipment including the highly specialized Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).  The position is responsible for developing and executing all the equipment maintenance and repair programs, equipment safety programs and equipment use on the job site.

  • Coordinate equipment needs with the applicable department within FKCI (Equipment dept., Purchasing dept., Engineering dept. etc.).
  • Responsible for managing the equipment preventative maintenance programs on site and coordinating execution of these programs with operations.
  • Responsible for organizing and directing work to maintenance personnel on the job site.
  • Reports to General Superintendent on the status on equipment and works to provide availability of equipment.
  • Responsible for planning and maintaining parts, fastener, oil/lube, and misc. inventory on the job site.
  • Works with Office Manager to effectively control job site costs as they pertain to equipment purchases and usage.
  • Manages jobsite diesel permit as well as any regulatory related requirements, coordinating with the Corporate Equipment Dept. as needed.
  • Communicates job site outside rental equipment needs and coordinates with Equipment Dept. to execute these needs.
  • Supervise the installation of the Electrical system to supply power for the electrical needs for the tunnel and surface operations.
  • Coordinating freight back and forth from jobsite to vendors and to local equipment storage yards as applicable.
  • Participate in weekly progress and schedule meetings.
  • Effective communication with vendors.
  • Participate with all departments of FKCI to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Training local personnel in the maintenance/repair of all the hydraulic, electrical and mechanicals System of the Tunnel Boring Machine.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors’ degree in civil engineering or mechanical engineering OR 10 + years of industry experience can be used in lieu of degree
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and practices for heavy machinery, particularly hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in planning and maintaining inventory of parts, tools, and consumables while controlling costs related to equipment usage and purchases.
  • Experience in supervising electrical system installations and ensuring power requirements for operational needs are met efficiently.
  • Familiarity with managing permits (e.g., diesel permits) and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to organize, direct, and supervise maintenance personnel on-site to ensure efficient operations.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with internal departments, vendors, and external stakeholders effectively.

Expected Salary range is $110,000 – $140,000 depending upon experience
