Kachemak Bay Flying Service (KBFS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of System Studies and Simulation (S³), providing a variety of aviation services to commercial, Government, and Partner Nation customers.

KBFS has locations in Temple, TX; Crestview, FL; and Geneva, AL.  KBFS currently holds certifications for CFR 14 FAA Part 133 (External Loads), 135 (Non-Scheduled Transport), 137 (Agricultural Spray Operations), 141 (Flight Training), and 145 (Repair Station).  In addition to its current commercial operations, KBFS provides contract aviation support to the Department of Defense, other US Federal Agencies, and US approved Foreign Militaries and security organizations.  The S³/KBFS Crestview, FL International ISR Training Academy provides pilot, mission system operator, flying crew chief, and loadmaster qualification training in air-land, airdrop, and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission sets.  KBFS Geneva provides Fixed Base Operations support for the Geneva Municipal Airport and is the recipient of the 2023 FAA Award for Airport Manager of the Year under Manager Bryan Pike.  KBFS Temple provides Flight Training, Aircraft Maintenance, and Avionics support, and Commercial Aviation Operations.

KBFS, has an immediate opening for an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic to help deliver superior support to commercial and government customers in Temple TX.

Military experience is a plus. This is not a teleworking position.

Description:

Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic manages and/or inspects aircraft maintenance activities including overhauls, modifications, maintenance and repair of aircraft structures, engines, drivetrains, electrical systems, and accessories.  Schedules aircraft maintenance considering such factors as work flow, location of equipment and facilities, required tools and test sets, supplies and job requirements.  Orders parts, lubricants, and other supplies, etc., in a timely manner to minimize aircraft down time for these items. 

Duties:

  • Removes and installs aircraft subsystem assemblies and components (e.g., engines, rotors, transmissions, flight controls, etc.). 
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled services on aircraft, subassemblies, components, and ground support equipment.
  • Assists in preparing aircraft for inspections and services.
  • Performs scheduled inspections and services; annotates logbooks and records.
  • Performs ground-run operational checks and trouble-shooting.
  • Accomplishes operator maintenance on ground support equipment, test sets, and special tools.
  • Solves moderate problems by conducting analysis using manufacturer technical documentation.
  • Uses available on-line manuals and industry standardized documentation to access critical information for services.
  • Works with supply personnel to order and receive parts per work order instructions.
  • Accomplishes other support tasks as assigned by the Chief or Lead Mechanic.
  • Must be available to work non-standard schedule that may include evenings and weekends.

Education:

  • High School Graduate or 4 years direct relevant experience.
  • Completed the Military Aircraft Repairer Course or holds an FAA A&P Mechanic Certificate.

Qualifications:

  • Valid FAA  A&P Mechanic Certificate (Inspection Authorization, IA, preferred).                                                                                                                                            
  • 1 year experience performing aircraft maintenance functions that require a valid FAA A&P.
  • 1 year experience interacting with Federal Aviation Administration Principal Operations Inspectors, Principal Maintenance Inspectors or Aviation Safety Inspectors.
  • Previously certified or qualified to perform aircraft engine ground runs or test.
  • A&P experience in repairing general aviation fixed wing aircraft.  Similar experience in Rotary Wing aircraft is a plus for this position.
  • Average skills at using the Microsoft Office Suite computer.
  • Previous experience supporting avionics installation and repair is a plus for this position.
