The Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool, a public entity risk pool providing property, liability, and workers' compensation coverages to more than 2,800 local governments in Texas, is seeking a Workers' Compensation Claims Assistant working out of our main office located in Austin, Texas. 

Functional Overview

  • Processes new claims; verifies claim information.

  • Enters information into a computerized database.

  • Submits written requests for medical and employment information.

  • Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.

  • Sorts and distributes mail.

  • Coordinates filing for assigned Specialists; routes documents to Specialists for review; maintains case files.

  • Prepares inactive files for storage.

  • Maintains office equipment; coordinates maintenance as needed.

  • Maintains office supply inventory; reorders as needed.

  • Makes copies and sends and receives faxes.

  • Performs related duties.

Knowledge/Experience Required 

  • Knowledge of modern office principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

  • Skill in the provision of customer services.

  • Skill in decision-making and problem-solving.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Education 

The successful candidate will have experience commonly associated with the completion of a high school degree or equivalent. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
