MEP-Field Engineer
We are seeking an experienced MEP Field Engineer/Inspector to support construction inspection services for a municipal capital improvement program focused on the rehabilitation and modernization of City-owned facilities in Mount Vernon, NY. The selected candidate will assist the Chief Inspector/Resident Engineer in overseeing installation, repair, and modernization of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across several municipal facilities, including community centers, fire stations, and civic buildings. This role ensures that building systems are installed and upgraded in accordance with engineering plans, codes, safety requirements, and contract specifications, supporting the safe and efficient operation of public facilities.
Scope of Work
The MEP Field Engineer/Inspector will perform inspection and construction oversight for projects involving rehabilitation and modernization of municipal building systems. Facilities involved may include community centers, fire department facilities, civic buildings, and other City-owned structures undergoing capital improvements.

• The MEP Inspector will ensure construction activities meet contract requirements, building codes, and safety standards while maintaining system performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct field inspections of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing installations.
• Verify contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable building codes.
• Inspect installation of mechanical equipment, electrical distribution systems, and plumbing infrastructure.
• Monitor construction related to life safety systems such as fire alarms, emergency power, and fuel gas systems.
• Coordinate with the Chief Inspector and project team regarding inspection findings and construction sequencing.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, and field modifications related to MEP systems.
• Maintain daily inspection reports and documentation of construction progress.
• Coordinate testing, commissioning, and startup of building systems.
• Identify deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Support verification of contractor quantities for payment applications and change orders.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in MEP construction inspection.
• Demonstrated expertise inspecting HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Strong understanding of building codes, mechanical/electrical standards, and life safety systems.
• Experience interpreting construction drawings and specifications for building systems.
• Ability to perform detailed field inspections and maintain accurate documentation.
Required Certifications
• Relevant trade certification, ICC certification related to mechanical, electrical, or plumbing inspection.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting public building rehabilitation or modernization projects.
• Expertise in energy efficiency upgrades and building system optimization.
• Knowledge of fire alarm systems, emergency power systems, and fuel gas installations.
• Experience coordinating with structural and architectural construction teams.

• LEED Accreditation
• NICET certification related to building systems

Compensation
• The good-faith salary range for this position is $65-$85 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and client requirements.
• Candidates with greater depth of experience or specialized expertise may fall toward the higher end of the range, and exceptional candidates may be considered for compensation outside of this range, consistent with client budget and company policy.
