Position Overview

PACO Group (PACO) is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Operator to support the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Construction & Development (MTA C&D) under the Signals and Train Control (S&TC) Business Unit. This position provides drafting and documentation support for an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) System Upgrade Project, a critical initiative designed to enhance power reliability and operational resilience across MTA’s signal and control network.  The CADD Operator will prepare structural and utility drawings showing how UPS equipment and supporting infrastructure integrate into existing MTA facilities. Work includes developing detailed drawings for duct banks, conduits, grounding systems, equipment foundations, HVAC coordination, and control interfaces, ensuring compliance with MTA C&D standards, Project Management Procedures (PMPs), and Project Management Guidelines (PMGs).  This role is ideal for an motivated and detail-oriented CAD professional with a background in civil, utilities, or electrical infrastructure drafting, particularly within transportation or power-related projects.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Design and Drafting

  • Develop detailed technical drawings, plans, and diagrams using MicroStation in accordance with MTA C&D PMPs, PMGs, and drawing standards.
  • Prepare structural and utility drawings supporting UPS system installations, including conduit routing, duct banks, grounding layouts, and equipment anchoring details.
  • Interpret sketches, redlines, and design markups from engineers, architects, and signal specialists to produce precise construction documentation.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet industry standards, MTA C&D specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Revise and update drawings as directed, maintaining consistency and version control.

 

Coordination and Documentation

  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and construction staff to align CAD deliverables with current field conditions and design objectives.
  • Maintain organized drawing archives in Bentley ProjectWise, Unifier, or other MTA-approved document control platforms.
  • Assist in the preparation of record drawings, contract documentation, and presentation materials for reviews and stakeholder coordination.
  • Support collection and assembly of as-built documentation and turnover packages for system acceptance.

 

Technical Integration Support

  • Produce drawings showing UPS component layouts, foundations, and utility interconnections with signal and power infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, and mechanical disciplines to ensure compatibility and accuracy across design interfaces.
  • Provide drafting support during design development, construction, and closeout phases.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in civil, utilities, or infrastructure drafting.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or equivalent CAD software.
  • Ability to interpret and translate engineering sketches, markups, and field data into accurate CAD drawings.
  • Familiarity with construction and design standards applicable to utilities and structures.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities within multi-discipline design teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in drafting, engineering, or architecture.
  • Prior experience reporting or supporting MTA C&D, NYCT, or other public transportation agencies.
  • Familiarity with signal, substation, or UPS system design in rail or power infrastructure settings.
  • Experience with Bentley ProjectWise, Unifier, or other document control systems.
  • Experience or exposure to BIM modeling (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, or related platforms) for infrastructure coordination.
  • Coursework or certification in Project Management, Drafting Standards, or Quality Assurance.

Work Environment and Schedule

  • Location: 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004 (MTA C&D – Signals & Train Control Department).
  • Schedule: Full-time, on-site, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Occasional evening or weekend coordination may be required for field verification or project meetings.

 

Compensation:

 

  • The good-faith salary range for this position is $35-$45 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications and client requirements.
  • Candidates with greater depth of experience or specialized expertise may fall toward the higher end of the range, and exceptional candidates may be considered for compensation outside of this range, consistent with client budget and company policy.
