PACO Group is seeking a highly experienced Civil/Structural Inspector to join our project team supporting construction management operations for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. This individual will play a critical role in inspecting civil and structural construction work, monitoring compliance with plans and specifications, and supporting timely project delivery across a variety of construction projects.
The Civil/Structural Inspector will work closely with project management, engineering, and construction teams to ensure proper inspection, track project performance, and provide analysis and recommendations to maintain quality, safety, and schedule adherence.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect construction work including concrete, civil site, paving, drainage systems, hydrant fuel systems, structural components, and maintenance-of-traffic work, with some electrical, plumbing, and environmental knowledge.
- Review plans and specifications for constructability and compliance with contract requirements.
- Prepare written documentation such as daily narratives, special inspection reports, daily time and material records, and unit price work documentation.
- Identify potential extra work issues and keep the Resident Engineer advised.
- Conduct preconstruction and construction progress meetings, coordinate multiple work locations, and perform audit inspections throughout the construction process.
- Coordinate quality assurance inspections of completed work and ensure safety procedures are maintained.
- Actively coordinate between private business entities and facility departments.
- Maintain accurate records, databases, and filing systems.
- Communicate effectively with Resident Engineer, contractors, and facility staff in person, via phone, or two-way communications.
Education (Same/Similar as Experience and Skills)
· bachelor’s degree in business or engineering preferable.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience inspecting construction work varying in size ($500K to $5M+) and complexity (multiple crews and shifts).
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Ability to obtain high-level security clearances such as SWAC, SIDA at Airports, or TWIC at Ports.
- Night and weekend shifts required.
- Trained in OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety.
- Relevant certifications desirable: ICC/NICET Level 3 Asphalt or Highway Construction, ACI Concrete Special Inspector, Work Zone Safety.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple work locations, manage inspections, and enforce safety compliance.
- Knowledge of NYC Building Code (NYCBC) and construction means and methods.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
