Description

Systems Administrator

 

Job Title: Systems Administrator (O365/M365, AD, Azure)

Reports to: IT Infrastructure Manager, Washington Corporations

 

Purpose:

As a Systems Administrator, you are responsible for the maintenance, configuration and reliable operation of computer systems and servers. A system administrator will install hardware and software and participate in research and development to continuously improve and keep up with the IT business needs of the organizations that we support. System administrators also actively resolve problems and issues with computer and server systems to limit work disruptions within the company. System administrators will be able to identify the projects and tasks as subject matter experts allowing for a bottom-up approach. This particular role will focus on supporting our M365 and Azure AD.

 

Responsibilities:

  • General Microsoft Windows system administration, security patching, OS upgrades,

       troubleshooting problems and ensuring maximum availability of IT equipment. 
 

  • Install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluate and install patches and resolve

software and hardware related problems. 
 

  • Run Nessus reports for windows server vulnerabilities, remediate where you can and escalate to

other teams where necessary.  

 

  • Work with team members to integrate tools with other IT systems and attend meetings within

and outside of our department to understand current requirements, change requests and future

needs.  

 

  • Able to provide guidelines, do or don't-do recommendations and resolutions in accordance with

Microsoft best practices or through lessons learned in previous projects.  

 

  • Proactively monitor systems in service now queue and Teams channels, remediate when

possible or work with other teams and departments to achieve resolution. 

 

  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems,

servers, and virtualization. 

 

  • Install and upgrade server components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate

automation processes. 

 

  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and

resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues. 

 

  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing

new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.

 

  • Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data

protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures .

 

  • Lead systems team efforts, making sure all applications, servers, and related equipment

problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions. 

 

  • Responsible for capacity and storage planning for on premises and cloud datacenters. 

 

  • Assists with onboarding and offboarding of employees, partners and contractors. 

 

  • Provides strategic direction on the future of end-user, server, virtual and cloud computing

technologies. 

 

  • Serves as a technical mentor to our junior team members. 

 

  • Manages current and new deployments for SSO and MFA.  

 

  • Performs scheduled and emergency maintenance through our CAB as required to ensure systems

remain available and secure. 

 

Requirements:

 

  • Establish and maintain respectful, cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 

 

  • Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field, continuous self-education. 

 

  • Knowledge in the following: MS Windows, Active directory, Group Policies, Exchange on prem

and online, virtualization, storage and data protection (backup and replication), cloud hosting in

Azure, power shell, SCCM and cloud-based device management tools, (inTune) and azure

conditional access policies.  

 

  • System administration and IT certifications in Microsoft or other related fields are a plus. 

 

  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking; software, hardware, and networking protocols. 

 

  • A proven track record of creating and delivering on IT project plans. 

 

  • Strong knowledge of implementing and developing service desk and IT operations

best practices, including expert knowledge of systems security, storage, data protection, and

disaster recovery protocols. 

 

  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

 

  • Demonstrated ownership, initiative, customer orientation and teamwork competencies. 

 

  • Ability to communicate technical issues with non-technical people. 

 

  • Analyze importance, criticality and priority of reported issues and escalate as necessary.

 

  • Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends as a way to prevent future problems.  

 

  • Document current process and procedures. 

 

  • Train end users and coworkers as required. 

 

  • Provide 3rd level and overflow support for end user issues that may come from service desk,

desktop, applications teams.    

 

  • 50 precent of role is project work and 50 percent support and maintenance.

 

    • Previous experience with POs and budgeting is a plus.

 

    • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience is preferred.

 

    • 5-7 years experience in systems administration or other technical support role is preferred.

 

Hours:
 

This is a salaried position with some flexibility in hours once on-call and support coverage schedules are worked out with the team. Applicant must be willing to work additional or non-standard hours to support delivery of time-critical project deadlines.
